Reviewing a variety of series, in addition to the main plot, you can always notice the presence in the film of a certain secondary meaning. In this case, the signs, intentionally left by the creators of the film, you can only partially capture the essence. And these same signs can be very different, for example, the names and surnames of famous personalities. For example, in the most sensational science fiction series called "Lost" or "Lost" Jeremy Bentham is often mentioned. Who is that? How is it related to the plot of the film? And in what season is it mentioned?
A few words about the series itself
Lost is a famous robinsonade, as well as a popular dramatic and at the same time mystical series. It has a total of 6 seasons, in each of which crashed passengers fight for their lives. In one of them, there is a certain Jeremy Bentham.
According to the plot of the series, passengers flew on a snow-white liner through Sydney in the United States. However, the unexpected happened, and the plane crashed onto one of the most mysterious and frightening islands in the endless waters of Oceania. Throughout the series, it tells about the fate of each of the participants in the flight, about his past and future life. The series is replete with mysterious and chilling scenes, and also contains elements of drama and romance.
In what season did Jeremy light up?
Jeremy Bentham is first mentioned in the seventh episode of the fifth season, as well as in the 93rd episode of the series, which was released on television in February 2009. The series, which is about this character, tells about the life and death of Jeremy Bentham and has a similar name.
So, in the center of the plot of this series, we see John or Jonathan Locke, who later received the pseudonym Jeremy Bentham. Recall that this is one of the key characters who survived the crash of an airplane (flight Osheanik-815). As conceived by the authors, initially this person was paralyzed and could not move independently. However, after getting to the island, motor functions fully recovered. As a result, he was able to fully walk without any help and even felt a certain mystical connection between him and the mysterious island.
A brief history of the fate of Locke on the island
John Locke, aka Jeremy Bentham, was an unsurpassed hunter. For the same reason, it was he who was engaged in the extraction of food in the camp, which the surviving passengers pitched on the island. As it turned out, this is a chaotic and controversial personality with vivid qualities of a leader. However, this did not prevent him from partially betraying his wards and switching to the side of the so-called Others (local residents who arrived on the island much earlier). It was he who was involved in various kinds of events, for example, that led to the explosion of two Flame and Swan stations at once, as well as in the deaths of several people.
Briefly about the plot of the series where Jeremy Bentham meets ("Lost")
In the story, John Locke gets to Tunisia. This is where our hero is redirected after he turned the treasured wheel of time. He wakes up and sees that he is lying on the pavement, and around him there are a lot of surveillance cameras. Due to a broken leg, it is difficult for him to rise, and he desperately begins to call for help. The pick-up driver, loaded to the eyeballs by unfamiliar people, responds to his call. They lift the victim and carefully lay in the body.
So John Locke or, as he is called here, Jeremy Bentham (his biography will be described below) gets to the hospital. During procedures with straightening the legs, the hero loses consciousness from pain.
After he regains consciousness, he is faced with the former leader of the Other and rather wealthy businessman Charles Widmore. It is this fat bag that tells the hero about their long-standing acquaintance that happened 50 years ago. At the same time, John himself is confident that this meeting took place only a couple of days ago, and not when he was only 17 years old.
He convinces John that they have common goals and suggests returning to the island, after having previously found six people who recently managed to leave this unfortunate crash site. As a confirmation of his intentions, a rich man gives out to a stunned John money, a dossier of all six lucky ones and documents in the name of Jeremy Bentham. According to Charles, he chose this pseudonym because John's parents named him after the philosopher, and Bentham also had similar interests.
The search for six people
In search of six people who escaped from the island, John spends a lot of time and effort. However, all his persuasion to return does not lead to the desired result. Other heroes do not want to hear anything about the island, and even more so about returning there. Having lost all hope for the implementation of his plan, John decides to take his own life by hanging. The current leader of the Others comes to his aid. However, after the disclosure of certain information, he self-righteously strangles Locke and leaves the scene of the crime.
Incredibly, the deceased Jeremy Bentham (“Lost” - one of the series where the name of this philosopher is mentioned) survives and ends up on an island where no one remembers him. The hero himself knows everything. Later, he understands how he got on the plane, and what caused his return from the dead ...
The cult personality of Jeremy
As we casually mentioned, the name Jeremy got into the script of the series is no coincidence. This is a very real person, born in February 1748 in London. His father was the then-famous lawyer Samuel Bentham. Like his father, the young philosopher was also educated at Oxford. He later graduated from Westminster School, Queens College and Lincoln's Inn (an educational institution where he taught law and other legal disciplines).
At one time, this philosopher developed a unique prison building plan, which he called the “Panopticon”. This structure was a kind of cylindrical structure equipped with internal glass partitions.
At the same time, the jailer was in the center. He could follow all the prisoners, who, in turn, could not see him. And since the prisoners know that they are being watched, but do not assume when exactly this happens, they try to behave appropriately always. Thus, they easily turn into ideal prisoners who do not violate order. By the way, something similar applies to the inhabitants of the island. They know about observation and begin to behave as the observer needs it.
Jeremiah Bentham died when he was 84 years old. However, he was not buried. On the contrary, during his lifetime he bequeathed his body to science. Therefore, after his death, the skeleton of Jeremy Bentham was dressed in a suit and covered with a special wax mask. Currently, he is still at University College London.
