"Gentomycin" instructions for use are characterized as an antibiotic in the form of white ointments with a yellowish (or pure white) tint. The active ingredient is gentamicin sulfate. Excipients: white petrolatum, paraffin. The drug is prescribed for external use.

Aminoglycoside antibiotic affects a large number of microorganisms (gram-negative and gram-positive). With a single application, the duration of therapeutic efficacy persists for eight to twelve hours. Thus, the drug is allowed to be used once or twice in knocks, regardless of the nature and course of the pathology, the severity of the damage.

The drug is prescribed for local wound therapy in the second stage of the process in surgery to prevent purulent effects, in combustiology (burn medicine), and during frostbite. The medication is indicated for use in dermatology for skin diseases of an infectious nature (superficial folliculitis, pyoderma, dermatitis, furunculosis, ulcers, eczema, acne) caused by microbes that are sensitive to the drug.

The "Gentomycin" instruction allows for use in domestic injuries to eliminate small scratches and wounds, puffiness, and for wounds containing purulent-necrotic masses.

The drug is intended for external topical application. After standard processing, the ointment is applied directly to the damaged surface. A sterile gauze dressing is fixed on top . It is allowed to apply the ointment first to the dressing, and then to the wound.

In the treatment of burns, the drug is used twice or three times a week. In the treatment of wounds, ointment is applied 2-3 times a day daily. Dosage is determined by the area of ​​the affected surface. In the treatment of extensive burns, the amount of the drug per day is no more than 200 mg of the antibiotic. The duration of use is determined by the dynamics of the healing of lesions, severity, form of pathology. As a rule, the duration of use is from seven to fourteen days.

Application for dermatological pathologies involves daily use of the drug. "Gentomycin" instructions for use recommends applying to the affected area with a thin layer in knocks 2-3 times or on a gauze bandage with application on the problem area. The duration of treatment for dermatological pathologies on average is one to two weeks.

In the presence of exudate on erosions and ulcers, preliminary washing (disinfecting treatment) with hydrogen peroxide, furacilin or boric acid is carried out.

The side effects of the ointment "Gentomycin" instructions for use include allergies in the form of a rash on the skin, irritation, itching, hyperemia.

The drug is contraindicated in the first stage of the wound process, with hypersensitivity.

Long-term use of the ointment over a wide area is not recommended due to the likelihood of developing resorptive effects. This, in turn, is unsafe for patients with renal failure.
