Metipred is a hormonal drug and is included in the group of glucocorticosteroids. The medication is used in the treatment of habitual miscarriage, infertility, to correct the content of 17-OH-progesterone (adrenal hormone), an increased level of which can both contribute to miscarriage and prevent conception.

The drug is prescribed for systemic, skin, allergic diseases. These include: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, bullous dermatitis (herpetiform), pemphigus, psoriasis, exfoliative, seborrheic dermatitis, mycoses. Metipred instructions can be used for localized hypertrophic lesions and infiltrates, discoid lupus erythematosus, chronic neurodermatitis, and lipoid diabetic necrobiosis.

The medication is also used as additional therapy for exacerbations or against the background of the acute course of diseases of a rheumatic nature: rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis.

Metipred is prescribed for allergic diseases. These include seasonal or persistent rhinitis, asthma, reactions to drugs, urticaria, atopic and contact dermatitis, anaphylactoid and anaphylactic reactions.

The drug is not prescribed for latent or active tuberculosis, systemic fungal diseases, AIDS, viral or bacterial pathologies of the chronic and acute course, intestinal anastomosis, hypertension, persistent heart failure. The medication is also contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity, severe renal or liver dysfunction, gastritis, esophagitis, hypothyroidism, severe osteoporosis, diabetes mellitus, latent or acute peptic ulcer, polio (except for bulbar-encephalic forms). The drug is also not prescribed for mental disorders, glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, severe osteoporosis, lactation, lymphoma after BCG. It is contraindicated in premature babies.

Adverse events when taking Metipred include dizziness, adrenal cortical atrophy, Itsenko-Cushing's syndrome, menstrual disorders, steroid diabetes, growth retardation in children, impotence, hirsutism, increased body mass, decreased tolerance to carbohydrates. It is possible to decrease muscle mass, mental disorders, cramps, hypotension, steroid acne, candidiasis, bronchospasm, anaphylactic shock, urticaria, hyper- and hypopigmentation, increased intraocular pressure and other undesirable manifestations.

An overdose of the drug manifests itself in the form of edema, the appearance in the urine of protein, hypertension, arrhythmias, cardiopathy, hypokalemia, and a decrease in filtration volume. As a condition therapy, forced diuresis, antacids, potassium chloride are used. With psychosis and depression, reduce the dosage or cancel the drug. In this case, lithium salts or phenothiazine preparations are prescribed.

The drug is prescribed orally after meals in the morning, in the form of injections (intramuscularly, intravenously, in the vagina and synovial bags, in areas of skin lesions, articular cavities), and also rectally.

In divided dosages or once, the medication is indicated to adults in an amount of four to sixty milligrams per day. The initial dosage is from 12 to 40 mg, in some cases up to 100 mg per day. The maintenance dose is 4-12 mg / day. The maximum amount of the drug per day is 250 mg.

With adrenal insufficiency, children are prescribed 0.14 mg / kg orally three times a day.

The dosage depending on the disease is selected individually by a specialist.

Metipred and pregnancy

In some cases, the drug is used in small doses throughout the gestation period. At the same time, medical monitoring of the condition of the fetus and mother is mandatory.
