The drug "Yoks" is a tool for external use. The active substance in it is povidone-iodine - an antiseptic with a wide spectrum of action. Compared with ordinary iodine (alcohol solution), its effect is longer, while more gentle: povidone-iodine does not burn the mucous membranes and skin.
Based on this compound, several drugs were created: Betadine, Vokadin, Iodosept and others. "Yoks", the instruction to which speaks of its activity not only against bacteria, but also fungi, protozoa and viruses, is by far the most popular of them. It effectively treats colds of the throat, copes with stomatitis and glossitis - inflammatory diseases of the tongue, which can be caused by infection or injury. The instructions for use attached to the Yoks drug contain information about its composition: in addition to povidone iodine, it also contains allantoin, a substance with astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. Over the years, it has been included in anti-aging creams, as it accelerates the regeneration (restoration) of tissues. These properties of allantoin are indispensable in the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity and throat, which are most often very painful.
The instructions for its use, containing all the necessary information about the “Yoks” preparation, recommends using this remedy for catarrhal, follicular and lacunar tonsillitis, chronic tonsillitis, pharyngitis and glossitis. Despite the wide spectrum of action of this drug, their treatment in no way cancels the use of antibiotics. If the doctor has prescribed antibiotic therapy for you, the Yoks preparation (this clarifies the instructions) should be used in parallel. At the same time, its use simultaneously with other local means, for example, for gargling, can cause an undesirable chemical reaction. So, you should not use it together with hydrogen peroxide. It does not combine with salts of copper and iron, mercury and lead, mineral acids, alkaloid salts, etc. If you are taking orally or using any medications for local treatment, you are going to consult a doctor if you are going to use this drug.
The drug "Yoks" is available in two dosage forms - concentrated solution and spray. The last of them can be used in the treatment of only adult patients and children over 8 years old - in the event that they can hold their breath and there is no danger that they accidentally inhale the drug when sprayed. It is applied 2–4 times a day. "Yoks" solution instruction allows children from 6 years old and adults to use. It is used to flush inflamed surfaces and rinse them. Before use, the concentrated solution is diluted with water: 0.5 teaspoon per 100 ml. Rinse your mouth or throat for half a minute to ensure the optimal duration of action of the drug. In no case should you swallow it! In this case, acute poisoning may develop. They treat it with sorbents that prevent the absorption of iodine, and diuretics that help to remove it from the body. Particular care must be taken to ensure that the liquid does not swallow the child while rinsing. Do not allow the drug to get into the eyes. If this still happened, rinse them with plenty of water.
“Yoks” cannot be used to treat those who suffer from hyperthyroidism, renal and heart failure, as well as patients with hypersensitivity to iodine. It can not be prescribed for laryngitis. The use of the drug is prohibited for nursing mothers and women expecting a baby: the drug "Yoks" during pregnancy can harm the fetus, as its components freely penetrate the placenta. In this case, for the treatment of diseases of the throat and oral cavity, you should choose another, safer antiseptic.
