People always admire stunningly realistic paintings. It seems that you will reach out and stroke the dog, touch the water, pick a bunch of grapes. But what about realism - sometimes they themselves seem more real than real life. But the painstaking work of the designer often goes unnoticed. Although it is thanks to his work that many companies get their own face - a logo. Concise and strict is well perceived, but we do not always consider it point-blank. So, stylized animals most often appear in this form of fine art. However, people who want to get a tattoo also come across them. And the creation of such drawings is worth learning - it will develop observation, expand creative thinking, and indeed - it's just fun.
What is stylization?
Intuitively, this term is easy to understand. If you look at the encyclopedia of art, we read that this is a generalization of a number of objects, the allocation of their distinctive features that are immediately evident. It is clear that if we stylize, say, a tiger, then in all the drawings there will be stripes by which we recognize the predator, in the situation with a lion - a mane.
Stylized animals in all images will look like several lines. However, if you streamline them, subordinate them to the general idea, then they will tell the whole story.
New value
You can interpret stylization differently: this is the submission of the image to certain rules. For example, the American tradition involves the “humanization” of animals, endowing them with real emotions and anthropomorphic facial features. You can stylize animals so that they resemble a part of an ornament. Paropunk animals, for example, will consist of gears.
Why stylize?
The stylization of animals, as mentioned earlier, is mainly used to create logos and emblems. The eagle, whether the tiger depicted on the emblem of the basketball club, will be remembered immediately if it is concise, but at the same time accurate, clear. If you want to become a happy owner of a tattoo, you are unlikely to want to depict, say, a cat absolutely accurately, moreover, such a task is unlikely to be easily accomplished. The same is with butterflies. The silhouette is most often used: it looks more original and does not lose symbolism. Animal styling can come in handy in clothing design: for example, you want an exclusive print on a T-shirt. Then you can draw a silhouette of the beast. This, it would seem, can stop. And you can fill the whole space, for example, with inscriptions, hearts, geometric shapes.
Graphic styling of animals: where to start?
First of all, get acquainted with this beast. Look for photos, images from different angles: the stylization of animals (drawings are provided in the article) begins with this. It would be nice to read about the features of this species. So you learn to highlight the main features in the figure, pose, habits. The stylization of animals in the graph is based on the fact that it was possible to outline the entire image in one line. Think about what you would like to highlight: eyes, stomach, paws, wings, scales, beak, tail? A minimum of detail is your motto! Now add, for example, penguins, dark scales. A couple of lines - and the stylization of animals worked wonders - your penguins play a ball, eat ice cream, read a newspaper ... If you work on a computer, then styling is not difficult. Make the picture black and white and maximize the contrast. Now we only have a silhouette. We work with it - add or remove extra lines, adjust the thickness, their continuity. If the result came out pretty elegant, then you can make, for example, an ornament from a butterfly. A stylized sketch with a marker made by a continuous line can also pass. Everyone knows the Lacoste logo - a crocodile. It is also a stylization. In the same way as a crocodile, consisting entirely of triangles or circles.
Transformation in the style of ...
Style is a handwriting, a set of techniques by which we recognize an artist, country or era. And if you start from precisely this meaning of the word, you can make an imitation of Van Gogh or Ancient Greece. The stylization of animals under Disney is quite popular - it is most clearly manifested in the animated image. How to create a beast, for example, in an animation tradition? First, draw the general contours of the muzzle. And then your observation will come in handy: how to twist a cat's lips with a smirk, how to make sly eyes of a fox? Sayings, phraseologisms will tell you what emotions to portray. Imagery is also important. Need an Egyptian style image? Use cats depicted in profile, also combine body parts of people and animals. Want to get a steampunk animal? Put it out of the gears. If you dream of a little animal worthy of Van Gogh's brush, then use unsteady lines, bright colors. Popular art now is the faces of cats instead of the faces of Mona Lisa.
Every artist wants to know
What is important to remember an artist styling animals? First, grab only the main details from the entire picture and show them brighter. Secondly, use a minimum of lines - what can we say about the details. Or try to bring the original image as close as possible to the desired style - but this is just achieved with the help of details. What to work with for styling? If you are not using a graphical editor, then you can use a notebook and a choice: pencil, helium pen, ink, marker, pastel.
