Classics of the genre: Die Hard. Actors who embodied the idea of โ€‹โ€‹John McTiernan

A worthy American movie "Die Hard" (actors: charming B. Willis, charismatic A. Rickman and recommended by the leading male actor B. Bedelia) was originally released in Russia under a completely different silly name and was a wild success, however, as in the world hire. Not surprisingly, the audience is invariably attracted by a famously unfolding plot action, indescribable sharpness of collisions and spectacularly set action scenes.

A Christmas Story from John McTiernan

The motion picture is based on the work of Roderick Thorpe's Die Hard. The actors who took part in the filming of the film declare the only difference: in the novel, the main protagonist saves the daughter, and in the film the ex-wife, but, like in the literary original, all the events unfold on the eve of Christmas. In fairness, it is worth noting that cinema can hardly be called a Christmas cinema. Director John McTiernan managed to heat up the atmosphere to the limit, the plot really captures, periodically striking the viewer with amazing attraction moments.

The voltage goes over the top

Also, the director quite successfully and effectively uses elements of claustrophobia in his movie, which often occurs in an office building, aggravates the feeling of anxiety with scenes from the elevator shaft. After, like riding a roller coaster, he changes the pace of the story, increasing his anticipation of the audience, using frantic shootouts and incredible stunt tricks. In modern cinema there are many pictures in which the screen action is not supported by semantic load and there is no tension completely. Die Hard (whose actors are known and popular today) almost thirty years ago managed to maximize the attention of the viewer on each episode, and this distinguishes it from similar movies in the action movie genre.

Description of the plot. Warning contains spoilers

Just before Christmas, a handsome New York policeman, John McClain (Bruce Willis), intending to meet his ex-wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), arrives in Los Angeles. Holly, preferring a business career, some time ago she left her forever busy husband with her children. Immediately upon arrival, John goes to his wife directly to work - in the building of an influential corporation, where a major deal is planned and the subsequent celebration. But an unexpectedly gang of terrorists, equipped with the latest technology, breaks into the room, making their own adjustments to the company's plans. As it turned out later, the group was pursuing by no means political goals, they are driven by a thirst for profit. Further in the plot of the movie "Die Hard" (the actors as one note this fact), a turning point comes. Terrorists miraculously forget about the presence of McClain, who, having assessed the situation, manages to get a walkie-talkie, eliminating one of the bandits. He contacts the Los Angeles Police Department. Doubting the reliability of the information received, Sergeant Al Powell (Reginald Weljonson) is sent to the place of the alleged incident for verification. John manages to give him a special sign, and the policeman calls for reinforcements. The whole carefully planned operation goes awry, and everything else, McClain, a staunch policeman, a professional in his field, enters into battle alone.

Alan Rickman

Chief Antagonist

The main villain in the movie "Die Hard" (the actors of the entire film crew were surprised by the director's choice) was Hans Gruber, a seasoned German terrorist with experience, smart, thin, charismatic and merciless. The actor, who embodied such a bright character on the screen, before participating in this project in his homeland in the UK shone in the television movie and theater. Alan Rickman, who became the main antagonist of Die Hard, received carte blanche in Hollywood cinema precisely with this role. Now he is one of the most authoritative, deepest, most demanded and talented actors - the star of the world screen. But the director had to work hard, working with him, for example, not to show a close-up of Hans's face when he shoots someone. The fact is that Alan flinched every time from the sound of a shot, and this, of course, did not fit into the image of a merciless and cruel villain. Bruce Willis refused to rehearse the scene of the meeting between Gruber and McClain in advance, believing that impromptu would have a more emotional effect on the viewer.

To be continuedโ€ฆ

The widespread recognition by the audience of the brainchild of John McTiernan provoked the release of many similar stories for rent, they naturally belonged to other authors, and their narration was focused on other heroes, but the idea of โ€‹โ€‹a loner in the fight against everyone and against everyone took the minds of filmmakers for a long time. In addition to other films, four sequel films appeared: Die Hard-2, Die Hard-3: Retribution, Die Hard-4.0 and Die Hard: A Good Day to Die.
