Rebellious princess

Many years have passed, but the queen is still afraid when her daughter goes for a walk in the forest. Elinor is trying to rehabilitate the stubborn girl and instill in her good manners, hoping that over time, Merida will become a real princess and find a worthy chosen one. The girl herself is completely not interested in marriage, she likes to hone her art of archery. Therefore, when, according to tradition, on her sixteenth birthday, Merida (the princess) must choose a bridegroom, Elinor does not accept her daughter’s refusals and insists that she meet the candidates for husbands.

Not one of the sons of the noble families of the kingdom struck the heart of Merida. The girl is as stubborn as her red curls, which her mother constantly tries to put in her hair and hide under the mantle. Therefore, in the head of the rebellious princess, a plan is ripening on how to avoid marriage. Merida announces an archery tournament in which the winner will get her hand and heart. The princess also takes part in the competition and wins, having defended her hand, as well as the right to refuse marriage.

The queen was beside herself with such a trick. There is a quarrel between mother and daughter. Offended Merida (princess) rushes into the deep thicket of the forest, where she meets a sorceress. Without thinking about the consequences, the girl asks the witch to enchant her mother so that she ceases to impose marriage on her.

When the witchcraft works, Merida will bitterly regret her desire, but it will be too late, her whole family and kingdom are now under attack. In order to fix everything, Merida (princess) must cope with her pride and go through many trials for which she has very little time. The spell can only be removed before the dawn of the second day.

Character Creation History

When writing the script, the scriptwriter and director of the cartoon Brenda Chapman drew her inspiration from the tales of the authors Grimm and Hans-Christian Andersen, beloved from childhood. A distinctive feature of the plot of the story she wrote is the relationship of the mother and daughter, around which the events of the tale occur. Creating the character of the queen, Brenda took as a basis the manner of her own behavior, and Merida (princess) began to possess the character traits of her daughter Chapman.

When in 2008, Pixar decided to change the format and shoot an animated fairy tale, the heroine of which will be the young princess, the artists created more than one hundred thousand or so storyboards, most of which were subsequently used in the film. Interestingly, the original creators of the cartoon planned to give it the name "Bear and Bow".
