Clotrimazole tablets - description of the drug

Any fungal infection is quite unpleasant, because, firstly, it is sometimes difficult to diagnose, and secondly, it is difficult to choose the right remedy for treatment.

Clotrimazole, tablets of which are intended for vaginal use, are based on an antifungal substance of the same name with the name of the drug itself (dosage in 100 or 200 or 500 mg). Excipients include lactose, aerosil, corn starch, soda, tartaric acid, magnesium stearic acid .

Pharmacological characteristics

Clotrimazole is an imidazole derivative. This antifungal agent is quite a wide range. The effect of taking the drug is achieved due to a violation of the synthesis of ergostine, which is part of the cell membrane of fungi. Reception of clotrimazole causes changes in the structure of the membrane, its properties and cell lysis. Dermatophytes, mold fungi, pathogens of Pityriasis versicolor and spectra, as well as yeast, Candida and Torulopsis glabrata are especially sensitive to the drug. Antimicrobial action in relation to staphylococci and streptococci, as well as gram-negative bacteria

Special recommendations

It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the treatment of infection must be carried out in both sexual partners at the same time. Only in this way will it be possible to prevent its further spread, otherwise mutual infection will occur, and treatment will not have any result. A diagnosis such as trichomoniasis suggests that other drugs with a systemic effect are prescribed together with clotrimazole in the course of treatment.

It is not recommended to use tablets during menstruation. With the oral method of taking the drug, it is possible to develop anorexia, vomiting, nausea, gastralgia and other disorders, liver damage, hallucinations, pollakiuria, skin allergic reactions. If at least one of the listed reactions is manifested, activated charcoal should be taken immediately to cleanse the body and seek medical help.

Clotrimazole is poorly compatible with polyene antibiotics (amphotericin, nystatin, natamycin, etc.), it reduces their effect. Concomitant use with nystatin leads to a decrease in the effectiveness of both drugs. Propyl ether of ordinary para-hydroxybenzoic acid (high concentrations) can enhance the effect of the drug. Dexamethasone has the opposite effect. Tablets are stored in dry, dark places. The air temperature should be between 5 ° C-25 ° C. Children should not be allowed access to the drug. Clotrimazole has a shelf life of 3 years.

Thus, clotrimazole tablets , reviews of which are mostly positive, are an excellent tool against fungal infections and really give an effect.
