Marvel comic book character Mercury: Marvel movie actors

The comic book universe has always been of interest to many science fiction lovers. Nowadays, the theme of superheroes is especially relevant, because every year several films are released in cinemas that tell about the difficult life of a character in the Marvel universe.

The huge success of the films "X-Men" and "Avengers" forces the creators to come up with new stories every year and look for entertaining characters. The benefit in the world of comics of people with superpowers is abundant, this can provide directors and scriptwriters with interesting material for years to come. However, some studios have difficulty using characters in their blockbusters. Not so long ago, one of Marvel’s heroes, Mercury, became a bone of contention . Different actors were selected for the role of a person with supernormal abilities. Which of them is best embodied on the screen by Pietro is decided only by moviegoers, because, despite the identical personality, each turned out to be a movie character.

Marvel Universe Character

Mercury is a rather interesting and memorable person. Like all superheroes from comics, he overcame a very thorny path to his own formation. You can trace the many connections of Pietro with superheroes of various ranks, starting from Magnetto from X-Men and Spider-Man.

Hero Marvel Mercury - a man with amazing abilities. His real name is Pietro Django Maximoff. In addition, the guy has many nicknames, among which are Gypsy Davy, Mercury, Pietro Frank. He has a twin sister, Wanda, nicknamed the Scarlet Witch. She is an excellent telepath and can inspire anything, looking into the consciousness of her victim. One of the most important facts in the biography of Mercury is that he is the son of Magnetto. His mother, gypsy Magda, was once with a mutant from the X-Men story. However, she fled from him, realizing that she could not live next to a man who was eager to take over the world. After her death, the twins fell into the hands of a gypsy couple, Maria and Django Maximoff. After Pietro and Wanda discovered superpowers, their journey through the Marvel universe began. Mercury rescued his sister several times, joined the X-Men clan, and was even in the Avengers.

Super abilities

Mercury has unique superpowers. First of all, it is worth noting the adaptability of his body to high speeds. Pietro does not know fatigue, his bones and tendons are adapted to ultrafast movement. All this allows him to move faster than the speed of light. In addition, he has superhuman strength and endurance, and also has immunity to telepathy, which is rare for Marvel heroes. Mercury even inherited something from his mutant father. He can control magnetism, however, this ability is manifested rather weakly.

Among other things, Pietro has superintelligence, because he can think very quickly. But he doesn’t have to take physical strength either, because he studied martial arts with Captain America. But Mercury has practically no weaknesses, if you do not take into account the special connection with Sister Wanda.

Disagreement Studios

Fox was the first to decide to use the character Mercury (Marvel). “X-Men. Days of Future Past ”ahead of the movie“ Avengers ”for a year. Despite this, the creators of the story about the clan of superheroes did not back down. There were no lawsuits at the same time, because in the comics Pietro Maximoff refers to both the mutants and the Avengers.

And although there was no obvious struggle for this character, there was still a strong competition for the most vivid embodiment of the hero Mercury (Marvel). Actor Evan Peters, chosen by the director of the movie "X-Men" Brian Singer, was not a surprise for many fans of comics, because he already had experience in films of this kind, albeit parody.

The Role of Mercury in the Mutant World

In the film about people, X Pietro is a teenager who lives with his mother and hunts with petty thefts. He is incredibly active and energetic, while he has a good sense of humor. It is to him that Professor Charles Xavier and Wolverine turn to him for help, wanting to get Magnetto out of prison. In this film there is a subtle hint of the family ties of Mercury and Eric (Magnetto), but the viewer did not see an open discussion of paternal relations. What is noteworthy, Sister Wanda was not mentioned in any way, apparently, the creators decided that the film “Avengers” could independently reveal the difficult childhood of the twins Maximoff.

Actor Evan Peters

Many, having seen both actors, considered that it was Evan who better embodied Pietro's charisma. His hero turned out to be more mobile, younger and as positive as possible. The actor has many excellent roles on his account, and each character is different from the previous one. In the series “American Horror Story”, he plays a new hero every season, and does it brilliantly. He was able to embody a ghost teenager, a patient in a psychiatric hospital, and even a ruthless maniac recidivist. Of the full-length paintings in his filmography, one can mention “Kick-Ass”, “Adult World” and “List”.

The Avengers Movie

A year after the X-Men sequel was released, Mercury (Marvel) reappeared on the screens. "Avengers" showed a completely different image of this character, taking as a basis precisely the childhood of Pietro. Nevertheless, no one began to adhere to the original source in the form of comics, so some facts were still changed. An important part of the story is the fact that the heroes Marvel Mercury and the Scarlet Witch blame the death of their parents for the billionaire Tony Stark - Iron Man. They were orphaned when the high-rise building in which they lived was blown apart by a shell. On ammunition, they saw the name of the Stark Corporation, which led to a thirst for revenge on Iron Man. Despite this, the twins nevertheless become members of the Avengers team along with the Black Widow, Captain America, the Hulk, and Hawkeye. And although for Pietro the decisive battle became fatal, it is still not known whether the universe of the Avengers really lost the character Mercury.

Marvel: actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson

An interesting coincidence was that both actors, who played the role of Mercury, were familiar and starred together in the comedy "Kick-Ass" about grief-superheroes. However, on this fact, everything in common between the actors ends. Aaron's mercury is dramatically different from the hero Evan. He is harsher, older and more determined.

It has more thirst for activity than desire to have fun. He is driven by serious motives, in addition, he clearly feels responsibility for his sister. All these factors have fundamentally changed the personality of Mercury in the movie Avengers.

The actor himself has several high-profile projects in stock. It will be especially interesting for the Russian viewer to find out what exactly he embodied Vronsky in the latest film version of Anna Karenina. This actor is universal, he can play a shy teenager, a gallant gentleman and even a cunning chat manipulator.

Best incarnation

The character Marvel Mercury is a pretty multi-faceted person. It is very difficult to unequivocally answer the question of who best embodied it on the big screen. Despite the fact that the personality of Pietro Maximoff is the basis for understanding his hero, Evan Peters and Aaron Taylor-Johnson played him in completely different ways.

marvel mercury different actors

Mercury in the movie X-Men. Days of Future Past ”is still a teenager, not burdened with a difficult past. He is charismatic and even nonchalant. It should be noted the magnificent game of Evan Peters. In Avengers, the viewer observes a fundamentally different character. He has his own principles and goals, he is ambitious and venomous. Which of the actors did a better job is up to the cinema audience. It is already known for sure that Evan will reappear in this role in 2016, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson is unlikely to already be moving at super speeds in the Avengers team.
