Muscle spasm. Causes and symptoms

What is muscle spasm? What are the causes of its occurrence and characteristic symptoms? We will understand this article.

In a normal state, a person’s muscle tissue should be elastic and even. However, quite often the areas in which stress arises, is maintained and maintained are observed. Human consciousness perceives it as a muscle spasm. At the same time, nerve fibers and blood vessels are pinched. As a result, the energy and information exchange between the tissues and those internal organs to which these vessels and fibers enter is disrupted.

A spasm is a muscle contraction. Moreover, to maintain it in this state requires certain energy costs of the body. In cases where the stress region is quite extensive, these costs are very significant.

Muscle spasm is accompanied by aching, pressing or swelling (intensifying or weakening) constant pain.

The main general causes of stress include osteochondrosis and its manifestations, damage (bruises or injuries) to the spine, a prolonged static state that occurs in the wrong position of the body, as well as emotional experiences.

Muscle spasm can occur involuntarily during or after some physical exercises. Of key importance in the likely occurrence of contractions, experts attach to the state of hydration of the body. High-intensity loads cause profuse sweating, along with which sodium is washed out. However, some athletes take vitamin drinks during training. They contain a balanced concentration of trace elements (potassium, sodium and calcium), which positively affect the functioning of nerves and muscles. In case of imbalance, pain may occur.

Another reason for the appearance of painful contractions is the low content of calcium in the body. In this case, there is a reduction in intracellular fluid surrounding the nerves and muscles.

A low-carbon diet is also considered one of the causes of tension in the tissues.

Exercise causes a feeling of muscle fatigue. It is accompanied by their narrowing. In this case, an increase in the load on the nerve and muscle spindles and a decrease in the load on the tendons. If this happens at one time, then the normal relaxation-compression process will be disrupted. This, in turn, can lead to spasm.

Very often, stress becomes the cause of muscle tension. When an emotional situation arises, as a rule, a certain “mobilization” of all the internal resources of the body occurs. At the same time, there is an increase in muscle tone, an increase in heart rate, a slowdown in digestion, as well as activation of certain hormones. This reaction is necessary for the body to survive. After overcoming stress, the body should return to a normal calm state. However, in some circumstances (with a weakened nervous system) this does not happen. Thus, the body is in constant tension, which can cause chronic muscle spasm. In addition, in the body with constant stress, the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases increases, and digestive system disorders occur.

The best preventive method to prevent tension in the tissues is regular maintenance of muscle tone through exercise. In this case, before starting any lesson, it is necessary to prepare and strengthen them.

With a decrease in muscle mobility, the occurrence of pain accompanied by numbness, weakness or tingling, you should immediately consult a doctor.
