The drug "Diclofenac Gel" - a tool that is intended only for external use, is dispensed from pharmacies without a doctorโs prescription. It belongs to the anti-inflammatory drugs of the non-steroid group.
Diclofenac gel - instructions for use
The composition of the drug includes: a special substance called diclofenac sodium - 5.0 or 1.0 g. Additional substances: purified water, rectified ethyl alcohol, carbopol, propylene glycol, nipagin, lavender oil and triethanolamine.
Description of the preparation: translucent gel, has a white color with a yellowish tint or white color with a beige tint, has a specific smell.
Pharmacological properties
Diclofenac (the active component of the drug) refers to non-steroid group drugs that have pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. The drug inhibits cyclooxygenase of two types, disrupts the metabolism of arachidonic acid and the stages of prostaglandin synthesis, which are the main factors in the development of inflammation. Diclofenac gel, when applied, eliminates the pain syndrome, which is associated with the inflammatory process, and reduces swelling.
Indications
Inflammation of the joints and soft tissues after an injury, for example, due to bruises, sprains and overstresses.
Soft tissue diseases of a rheumatic nature, for example, bursitis, tenosynovitis. Swelling and pain, which are associated with chronic diseases of the muscles and joints (radiculitis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis).
Contraindications
- an allergic reaction to the main (diclofenac) or additional components of the drug, as well as but salicylates or other anti-inflammatory drugs of the non-steroid group;
- an indication in the history of the presence of asthma attacks as a result of the use of salicylates and NSAIDs;
- children who are not yet 6 years old.
The drug is recommended to be used with caution in case of exacerbation of hepatic porphyria, bronchial asthma, chronic heart failure and severe and acute violations of all functions of the kidneys and liver, even with erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract.
The use of this drug during pregnancy and lactation
Diclofenac gel in no case can not be used in the last months of pregnancy and during lactation. Use in the first two trimesters is allowed, but only after the recommendation of a doctor.
Doses and method of application
External use only. It can be used for children over 12 years old, and also for adults. The drug is applied to the skin up to 4 times a day. The required amount depends on the area of โโthe zone. One single dose should be about - 2-4 g. Children who are less than 12 years old are allowed to use no more than 2 g of the drug. Treatment with the drug depends only on the indications and the result of treatment.
Side effects
Systemic reactions: allergic reactions (bronchospastic reactions, urticaria and angioedema), as well as photosensitivity and generalized skin rash.
Local reactions: contact dermatitis (peeling, itching, papules, swelling of a painful area of โโthe skin, redness, vesicles), photosensitivity and eczema.
An overdose of the drug is not possible.

Diclofenac Gel may enhance the effects of other drugs that cause photosensitivity.

This gel should be applied exclusively to skin on which there is no damage, avoiding contact with open wounds. After application, it is not recommended to apply an occlusive dressing. The gel should not be allowed to enter the mucous membrane of the eyes.

Drug storage
