Theater History
In 1825, the Rybinsk
Drama Theater was founded
. Its history is associated with such names as M. S. Shchepkin, V. I. Kachalov,
V. F. Komissarzhevskaya, M. N. Ermolova, F. I. Chaliapin, L. V. Sobinov and others. All these great artists at different times visited the Rybinsk Theater on tour. The fate of Arkady Raikin is also connected with it. It was in this theater that he was in love since childhood, and this love helped him make a choice of profession. A.V. Timireva-Knipper (the unmarried wife of
Admiral A.V. Kolchak) served here as a props in the days of I. Stalin.
The theater began its existence in 1777, at least the first mention of it dates back to this year. This happened when the city of Rybinsk was only formed from the Rybinsk settlement. The building was specially built for the productions. But views of performances could only be afforded by representatives of high society. Ordinary citizens did not have such an opportunity. The theater in Rybinsk did not exist for long. In 1789, the city was visited by Paul I, who had just ascended to the throne. When he saw the building of the theater, he was horrified that the temple of art could be located in a beggarly wooden barn. The emperor ordered to dismantle the building immediately.
In 1802, a new theater building was built, it was also wooden. A troupe from Yaroslavl performed very often on its stage. The most favorite performance among the public was the production of "Dmitry Donskoy."
In 1825, the cultural institution - the Rybinsk Drama Theater - acquired a permanent acting troupe and director. They became the architect Pankov. The project for the construction of a building for the theater, he created himself. In 1826, Pankov leased the room to the wealthy landowner Obrezkov, and then sold it. Until 1840, the theater's actors were the serfs of Obrezkoy and Urusov. The landowners paid very little to their artists, so much so that they only had enough for bread and water.
In 1919, the theater was given the name "Demonstration", and in 1926 it became known as "Worker".
Since the mid-twentieth century, the troupe began to regularly tour the country. As well as actors took part in festivals. Such theater performances as "Not All Carnival is for the Cat" and "Queen of Spades" became the winners.
The theater is located at 17a Krestovskaya Street.
