Theater History
The Drama Theater (Astrakhan), a photo of the building of which is presented in this article, was founded by Lieutenant A. Gruzinov in 1810. Then the troupe was not constant. Before the townspeople, only visiting actors performed. Their artists appeared in the theater a little later. The performances, as already mentioned, were in the barn of the merchant Tokarev. A small utility room was specially converted for such purposes. The stone building, where performances could be shown in the winter, was built in 1887.
After the revolution, the main audience became sailors, soldiers, and the working class. The drama theater, which Astrakhan can be proud of, was forced to change its repertoire. Now it included performances that were consonant with that time. New adjustments to the life and creative activity of the theater were made by the war. The actors were divided into brigades and began to speak in hospitals in front of the wounded, military units, in the construction of defensive structures. Now their main task was to raise the morale of the defenders of the motherland. Most of the repertoire were works about the war.
The year 1986 brought the Order of the Badge of Honor to the Drama Theater. A year after this event, the theater was closed for restoration, which lasted seven years. At this time, the troupe was forced to wander around other people's venues. But, despite the trials, several premieres took place during this period: “Trees die standing up”, “Marriage of Balzaminov”, “Tram“ Desire ”. The most striking performances of the last century were: “The Ghost of Alexander Wolf”, “Idiot”, “Death of Tarelkin”, “The Little Fool”, “Family Portrait with an Outsider”.
At the beginning of 2000, A. Tsodikov became the head of the theater. Thanks to him, the productions acquired grace, originality and psychologism. The repertoire included “box office” comedy plays. Today in the program of the Astrakhan drama there are performances for absolutely every taste. Here are classics, and musical performances, and avant-garde, and children's tales. The performances of N.V. Gogol, M. Yu. Lermontov, A.N. Ostrovsky, Camoletti, Scribe and others that are on stage at the theater are very popular. Each season, the troupe releases 7-8 premieres.
