Tonsillitis - what is it? This is a disease that is characterized primarily by inflammation of the tonsils. It is not surprising, therefore, that until recently, the most popular treatment method for most specialists was their removal. Cut out - and no problem. Here are some numbers. According to statistics, tonsils (aka tonsils) were removed in fifty percent of children whose birth year was between 1970 and 1980. However, not everything is so rosy: of course, tonsillitis in the child no longer appeared, but the baby often did not stop having tonsillitis. On the contrary, doctors noted that diseases of the upper respiratory tract in young patients only became more frequent. To explain this is quite simple: after removal of the tonsils, the protective properties of the mucosa sharply decreased.
Treatment
Currently, the vast majority of doctors unanimously claim that chronic tonsillitis is not a reason to cut tonsils. It can and should be treated in much less radical ways.
Glands
What are these tonsils? They are located between the soft palate and the tongue, on the sides of the palatine curtain. In any biology textbook, you can read that the glands are part of the lymphoid pharyngeal ring. Their main function is to prevent pathogenic bacteria from entering the body during inspiration or eating. Thus, tonsils are a kind of protective barrier, and tonsillitis is its “destruction”.
Acute tonsillitis
If the tonsils are often subjected to inflammatory processes, they cannot fulfill their function. Microorganisms that enter the body are not destroyed, but provoke inflammation. First, a person suffers from frequent lingering tonsillitis (in fact, acute tonsillitis - this is tonsillitis), then the disease goes into a chronic stage.
Chronic tonsillitis
What is characterized by this disease? Doctors highlight a number of symptoms. Firstly, it is a constantly elevated body temperature, which cannot be brought down for many weeks. Secondly, as already noted, a person is prone to sore throats and other colds. Thirdly, tonsils are covered with a white curd coating. The patient also has bad breath.
Treatment
The treatment process is aimed primarily at removing the “traffic jams”. The best remedy is tonsil lavage, which must be done regularly. In addition, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics to the patient. In no case should one engage in self-medication: tonsillitis is a disease that can lead to the most unpleasant consequences, including heart disease, rheumatism and glomerulonephritis.
Immunity
Doctors note that it is difficult to fully restore the protective function of the tonsils if the patient has been suffering from chronic tonsillitis for a long time. In this case, the main goal is to increase the overall immunity of the patient. He is prescribed immunomodulating agents, and they should be chosen with great care: drugs should be combined with antibiotics.
