Uterine prolapse: symptoms, causes, treatment

One of the most common diagnoses that gynecologists make to their patients is uterine prolapse. Symptoms, causes and treatment methods are different, so no doctor will immediately answer you all the questions until you conduct a thorough examination.

Despite various reasons, prolapse of the uterus is primarily accompanied by a loss of elasticity of the pelvic muscles. In this state, the muscles are not able to hold the uterus, bladder and other female organs in the correct physiological position. The most common cause is a postpartum condition.

Uterine prolapse after childbirth is a common ailment that occurs due to strong pressure from above on the pelvic muscles, especially in the last three months of pregnancy. During childbirth, ruptures of the muscles of the pelvic floor, perineum and vagina are also possible, which subsequently leads to prolapse of the uterus. But an undesirable ailment can be avoided if pregnant women follow some important tips of the midwife in the process of labor, will also read additional literature, adhere to a proper, balanced diet, drink enough fluids and lead an active lifestyle.

At the initial stage, a woman may not notice that a uterine prolapse has occurred. Symptoms are quite mild and often resemble signs of an approaching menstruation or inflammation of the appendages. But with a thorough gynecological examination, the doctor will quickly determine the diagnosis and prescribe the necessary treatment. It is important for every woman to remember that, at a minimum, an examination by a gynecologist once a year is mandatory in order to prevent the detection of possible diseases at an early stage. If you see a doctor in a timely manner, treatment will be much more effective and give a positive result.

At an early stage of the disease, prolapse of the uterus, the symptoms and causes of which have already been identified by the doctor, requires conservative treatment in compliance with medical recommendations and preventive measures. The main treatment consists in exercises, through which the ligamentous apparatus is trained, and then the displacement of organs stops. The complex of these exercises is called Kegel exercises, their meaning is to work with intimate muscles. The execution process is simple and accessible at any time and anywhere: you need to actively alternately compress and relax the intimate muscles. The consequences of performing Kegel exercises will pleasantly surprise you, because in return you will get a more elastic and narrow vagina, and, accordingly, not only will the problem with the uterine prolapse disappear, but also more vivid sensations during sex will appear.

But if treatment was not prescribed in time, dropping the uterus, whose symptoms become more intense, will cause unpleasant sensations associated with urinary incontinence or difficulty urinating. You will be tormented by the constant sensation of a foreign body in the vagina, which will lead to painful sexual intercourse. In addition, cystitis or pyelonephritis are common. The reason for this is that the cervix descends closer to the exit of the vagina. At this stage, Kegel exercises do not give the desired result, and an operation is required in order to eliminate the inflammatory process and install a special pessary on the cervix.

Do not bring to the third stage, when the uterus completely falls out of the vagina. In this case, an operation cannot be dispensed with, and sometimes a complete removal of the uterus is required .

Despite everything, whether it is the prolapse of the uterus during pregnancy or due to the inflammatory process, timely access to a gynecologist will save you from unnecessary problems. It is recommended not to self-medicate, because this can lead to negative consequences.
