An object
Of course, anything can become an object for a sketch, but for a start you should choose an immovable object, independent of natural light sources, available. That is, you should not choose animals (the first sketches will be created for a long time, the horse will not stand so much).
Houses, benches, sculptures are also not a good choice for the first sketch. Drawing sketches implies the arrangement of light accents, and if a cloud suddenly runs up or, on the contrary, it suddenly becomes clear?
The best option is a mug, a toy, a flower on your desk under a lamp. You can also take the finished image, picture, photo and try to draw it, for which you also first need to make a sketch.

How to draw a sketch?
Imagine your object without details, as if you were looking at it in the dark. You can practice turning off the light. What remains the main thing? What lines, contours, shadows indicate that it is a mug, not a bucket or a cactus? Any idea? Forward!
Define the center of the sheet, draw two lines through this point - the vertical and the horizon.
Now determine the approximate center of your sketch (an object can be asymmetric and stand above or below the horizon), so draw two lines. Now you do not get lost in space.
We proceed to the image of the object itself, its contours. For starters, you can draw not even lines, but dots or dashed lines.
When the dashed lines reflect the shape of the object, circle them in the main.
Further refine your sketch by adding unique details.
The next step is the placement of shadows on the object and its definition in space. The example shows the creation of a sketch of a fictional girl (character), but if your mug is standing on a pedestal, its edge is broken off and there is an openwork napkin behind it, all this - albeit in general terms - should be clearly visible.
Even a fantasy hero on a sketch must have worked out all the details, because a sketch is an instruction for creating a drawing.
If there is a desire or need, you can finish the sketch by arranging color accents. You can color with anything, do it in sufficient detail, or just apply color spots.
Regular classes will inevitably lead to the fact that soon you will get original, original, informative sketches, and most importantly - very quickly!
Another exercise - the "five lines" - allow yourself to depict an object using only five lines or less. Trying to fulfill this condition is best when you already have some experience. Choose the objects that you see fleetingly (from the minibus window, driving in an elevator) - train visual memory.
