"Odeston" refers to the group of choleretic drugs. It is actively used in a number of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. What are the features of this drug? What effect does it have and does it have analogues?
Release form and active substance
The drug is available in the form of tablets having a flat-cylindrical shape. The color varies from white to yellowish, and on one side there is an engraving of Ch. The active substance is gimekromon, which has a choleretic effect. In addition to stimulating the formation of bile, it helps to relax the muscles of the excretory duct and the sphincter of Oddi (antispasmodic effect). Due to this, bile stagnation does not occur , the digestive function is regulated. An additional effect of the drug is the prevention of crystallization of cholesterol, which prevents the formation of cholesterol stones and the development of cholelithiasis. Tablets for parenteral administration have a fairly high bioavailability - they are rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract and have their effect. The drug is excreted from the body by the kidneys. Often, doctors prescribe Odeston. Its price is 300-360 rubles for 20 tablets. However, a lower cost choleretic agent can be found.
Indications
This drug and Odeston analogues are used in gastroenterological practice. It is prescribed for such pathologies:
- dyskinesia of the sphincter of Oddi;
- dyskinesia of the bile duct;
- non-calculous cholecystitis - a chronic form;
- cholelithiasis;
- interventions on the gallbladder;
- cholangitis;
- nausea and vomiting due to bile hyposecretion.
Often used "Odeston" for pancreatitis.
When is contraindicated?
An absolute contraindication is hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Enhanced secretion of bile after administration makes the drug prohibited for use during obstruction of the duct. Also, it should not be prescribed for ulcerative lesions, Crohn's disease, hemophilia. "Odeston" is contraindicated in severe renal or hepatic insufficiency and under the age of 18 years.
At the moment, there is no accurate information about the effect on the fetus during treatment with Odeston of pregnant women. A direct teratogenic effect has not been established, but prescription of the drug during pregnancy and lactation should be avoided, since safety data have not been proved. Plant analogues of Odeston have fewer contraindications.
Side effects
The drug in the presence of hypersensitivity can cause an allergic reaction, which, as a rule, manifests itself as a skin rash and itching. Flatulence, abdominal pain, and headache are also possible. With prolonged use, the medicine can provoke ulceration of the mucous membrane of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract.
"Odeston": instructions, reviews
The medicine is prescribed 30 minutes before a meal. As a rule, adults are recommended to use 200-400 mg of "Odeston" 2 times / day. Thus, the daily dosage should not exceed 1200 mg. The medicine is not intended for long-term use - the course of therapy is usually 2 weeks. Before taking, you should always consult your doctor, who will select an individual dosage based on the patient's condition.
The drug has mostly positive reviews. It helps improve the condition of patients with gastrointestinal diseases, while preventing the onset of severe complications. Patients report improved digestion and amelioration of symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.
Interaction with other drugs
"Odeston" is incompatible with metoclopramide, since when these drugs are taken together, a two-sided decrease in effect occurs. Also, it should not be combined with indirect anticoagulants: the effect of the latter is significantly enhanced. This threatens the development of hemorrhagic phenomena. The effect of gimekromona decreases with the joint use of the drug with morphine.
Analogs of Odeston
This name was given to drugs that have a similar effect with this. With their help, you can replace the medicine, but before that, it is better to talk with the doctor. Perhaps replacing the drug with an analog is unacceptable in this clinical situation. Similar drugs have almost the same indications. Odeston has several analogues.
Hofitol
The drug is a herbal - it is based on an extract from the field artichoke. The medicine has not only a choleretic effect, it also helps to restore liver cells and has a mild diuretic effect. Also, thanks to Hofitol, the production of liver enzymes is normalized, which improves the exchange of cholesterol and fats. The composition contains vitamins B1, B2 and C, which additionally stimulates the metabolism. Herbal origin allows the use of the drug at any age. Among the contraindications to this medicine are hypersensitivity, obstruction of the duct with a stone or tumor, as well as acute forms of diseases of the liver, gall bladder, and kidneys. Hofitol should be prescribed with caution to people with renal and hepatic insufficiency. Some analogues of Odeston have a lower cost. So the price for 60 tablets of Hofitol is 220-300 rubles.
"Allohol"
This medicine, like the previous one, contains herbal ingredients. Its composition is animal dry bile, nettle and garlic extracts, and activated charcoal. The drug has a pronounced choleretic effect, normalizes the production of bile and prevents the formation of calculi. In addition, there is a stimulation of secretion of other organs of the digestive system. The drug is also used for chronic hepatitis, uncomplicated cholelithiasis, initial cirrhosis of the liver, after removal of the gallbladder. Unlike the Odeston medicine, the price is 30-50 rubles for 24 tablets.
Cholagogue is necessary for violation of the outflow of bile. However, they are contraindicated in the complete absence of bile excretion due to obstruction. In this case, another treatment is required. Any pathology of the digestive and other systems requires medical intervention, so therapy should be agreed with a specialist.
