Lobotomy at home is a crime

Lobotomy is an operation that was used in the mid-20th century as a treatment for unbalanced patients in psychiatric clinics, mainly those who represented a danger to society. It was banned due to the destructive effect on the patient's personality. It was widely practiced not for its intended purpose, but as a punitive measure or in order to protect society from uncomfortable people. Oddly enough, in the Soviet Union lobotomy was prohibited in the mid-50s, while in the USA it was practiced until the 70s. The effect of lobotomy was clearly demonstrated in the cult film "Flight over the Cuckoo's Nest", filmed according to the no less cult book of K. Kesey.

How do lobotomy

If a person is destroyed or removed frontal lobes, then he completely disappears free will and ability to make decisions, while the rest of the body functions in the usual way, that is, a person does not lose any physical abilities, but any desires, aspirations and emotions besides natural needs. In this regard, lobotomy is sometimes called "personality amputation." The consequences of the operation are irreversible.

Prefrontal lobotomy has been practiced for a long time and today has become a part of history, at least officially. At the time of its invention, it seemed a unique discovery and panacea for many mental illnesses, in connection with which a person became dangerous, and not only. Initially, a craniotomy was required for lobotomy , and then a transorbital lobotomy was devised, after which even lobotomy was practiced at home, since the operation is simple and requires neither complete anesthesia nor special precision.

This happens in such a way: a thin layer of bone is pierced through a narrow hole in the eye cavity with a narrow blade, and a cone-shaped incision is made in the frontal lobes of the brain: in this way, the connections between them and other parts of the brain are broken, after which the mentally ill and previously unbalanced person becomes obedient and enjoyable as well as easy to care for. Previously, it was considered a blessing, but now it is prosecuted in all severity of the law. The operation, as a rule, took place under local anesthesia, since pain receptors are found only in superficial tissues, and the substance of the brain is absolutely insensitive to mechanical stress. In addition, to minimize the invasiveness of the operation, it is important that the patient is able to control the movement of the eyeballs.

Recently, the masses are very interested in such a question as lobotomy at home. At present, such a formulation of the question is incorrect, since this operation is officially prohibited, and no normal specialist will undertake to carry out it. When performed by a layman, lobotomy at home becomes deadly due to the huge risk of infection, and damage to the eyeballs, as well as other important parts of the brain, is possible.

Most likely, a person who is seriously interested in lobotomy at home, half a century ago, would undergo this wonderful operation as unbalanced and dangerous to others. Even if lobotomy at home interests him as a way to protect society from himself (there are such obsessions), then it is absolutely impossible to do it yourself, because in this case it will be necessary to take away the eyeballs and act almost to the touch, but this is not the most a good way to conduct operations. Thus, no matter what motive a person may act, lobotomy at home should be excluded - today there are many effective ways to deal with mental disorders, and modern psychiatry is significantly different from our ideas about it, based on speculation, prejudice and outdated information. almost half a century ago.
