Increased sweating. Causes

Some people sweat a lot. In some, after training on a treadmill, sportswear becomes wet through and through. Others have to wipe their hands before each handshake. That is, excessive sweating gives them a lot of trouble . Its causes may lie in a normal reaction to external stimuli or be a sign of some serious disease. The increased function of the sweating system is called hyperhidrosis. There are localized (local sweating) and general hyperhidrosis. Local sweating is characterized by increased work of sweat glands in specific parts of the body (armpits, soles of the feet, palms, large folds on the human body). General hyperhidrosis is due to the active work of all sweat glands of the body.

At least this unpleasant situation worsens the appearance of a person due to the appearance of wet spots on clothes, an unpleasant smell of sweat. There is a more serious cause for concern, as sweat serves as a favorable environment for the development of microbes and pathogenic fungi. Thus, there is a risk of developing fungal and other diseases of an infectious nature. But not only this should disturb a person who has excessive sweating. The causes of this condition should be subjected to clinical evaluation, as they may be in tumor, neurological, infectious or endocrine diseases.

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is caused by a thyroid disease or diabetes. Overweight people are also characterized by excessive sweating. The reasons for this in this case should be associated with the use of certain medications (antidepressants, contraceptives, hormonal drugs), a violation of the digestive process, a deficiency of vitamins and minerals, a violation of the functions of the immune system, low mobility due to aging, diseases of the musculoskeletal system and muscles.

Despite the fact that in most cases, excessive sweating is absolutely harmless , the reasons for establishing it and eliminating all anxieties can only be a result of a medical examination and consultation with a doctor. If a person sweats more than other people during the hot season, then sweating in this case is a normal reaction to a difficult situation: the body, thanks to self-regulation, lowers body temperature, which makes it easier to transfer heat.

If there is severe sweating of the body, then it is imperative to consult a doctor in the following cases:

  • night sweats, a person wakes up in a cold sweat, and pillowcases and sheets are wet in the morning;
  • general hyperhidrosis, that is, sweating is observed throughout the body, and not only the head, face, armpits, palms of the hands, soles of the feet sweat strongly;
  • asymmetric sweating is observed, that is, increased sweating is observed only on one side of the body (for example, one armpit, one sole or palm);
  • sudden and abrupt changes were detected, that is, sweating suddenly increased.

Increased sweating in a child is observed with latent diseases. This can be rheumatism, tuberculosis and other serious diseases that are usually observed in malnourished and debilitated children. Newborns are characterized by severe sweating with a lack of vitamin D, this is a signal of future serious health problems due to poor absorption of calcium by the children's body. Therefore, in such cases, you need to consult a doctor for advice, you may need to undergo examinations and tests to establish the exact cause of childhood hyperhidrosis.
