Despite? that the sequel to Ghostbusters 2, released in 1989, was not considered very successful, he justified himself at the box office and prompted the owners of Columbia / Sony to want to think about continuing the cycle. But the idea did not receive immediate implementation.
Idea of creation
Much later, when the stars of “Hunters” turned into pensioners, the idea arose of creating a third part with new young characters who would receive a blessing, and with it the equipment of retired veterans. At that moment, the creators planned to include equally young men and women in the new composition. To implement the idea, the company turned to the director of "Cops in Skirts", "Hen Party in Vegas" and "Spy" Paul Feigu. Attracted to work on the project, the director insisted on a complete reboot of the cycle, deciding to shoot a mirror image of the original, so Ghostbusters appeared - “Ghostbusters” (2016).
The main difference
The main difference of the new project, in comparison with the original film, was the gender of key characters. In the movie Ghostbusters (2016), comedian actors gave way to four comedians, which, according to the director, was supposed to compensate for the injustice in the cast of the 80s. The head of the company, Amy Pascal, who personally led this project, was unable to restrain the creative impulse of a successful feminist director. This fact subsequently became a "stumbling block" in the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of comedy after it was released. It is safe to say that this picture does not deserve that wave of negativity that accompanies the production process and the premiere screening. The rating of the tape according to IMDb was 5.40, foreign film critics generally rated the film 6.5 out of 10 points, domestic reviewers rated 5.5 out of 10. Cinema experts, analyzing the new comedy Ghostbusters, left comments saying that that the film is not the best work in the track record of Paul Feig, but represents a worthy, accurate and reverent use of the original brand.

The basis of history
In the case of creating a mirror image of the original film about the development of the storyline, there is no special meaning to speak. Despite some minor changes in the structure of the picture, and, of course, the climax, the story is the same as in the project of director Ivan Reitman. In the movie "Ghostbusters" (2016), the actors, or rather the actresses, realized the following idea of the director.
Dr. Erin Gilbert, who teaches the basics of quantum physics at the university, learns that a ghost book is on sale. There is no limit to the heroine's surprise, because she once wrote a literary opus in collaboration with her ex-girlfriend, who also has a doctorate Abigail (Abby) Yates. But the leadership of a higher educational institution strongly disapproves of “anti-scientific” research, so Erin is forced to demand from her friend to withdraw the circulation. But Abby manages to drag her friend into a new round of ghostly research, which she leads together with engineer Gillian Holtzmann. Unable to cope with the vocation, all three women simultaneously lose their jobs, so they create a scientific center for the study of the supernatural, reinforcing the team with New York history expert Patty Tolan and hiring the intellectually short-sighted but incredibly attractive secretary Kevin Beckman. At this moment, the metropolis is attacked by ghosts, preparing the city for a colossal cataclysm.

Feminization Issues
Not surprisingly, the main topic for heated discussion and debate was the new composition of key characters. The transformation of hunters into hunters simply infuriated individual narrow-minded chauvinists, they declared complete disregard for the project. Other, also hostile reviewers, resigned to the inevitable, angrily asked why these particular performers, “second-order” actresses, and not the well-known beauties, were stars of the first magnitude. But director Paul Feig managed to prove himself a successful producer of films with key female characters, and leading actors, as well as the title actors of the “Hunters” of the 1980s, are known for their regular appearance on the television sketch show “Live on Saturday Night.” Therefore, relying solely on rational thinking and facts, the audience should not have problems with the feminization of the comedy Ghostbusters. The film crew, including the director and co-author of the script, Paul Feig, screenwriters Katie Dippold and Ivan Reitman, cameraman Robert D. Youman, the production and editing team, confidently resists the attacks of enemies, not paying attention to scandalous provocations and stinging reproaches.

Actors and roles. Erin and Abigail
Of the hunters, the first viewer meets Erin Gilbert, whose role was played by actress Kristen Wiig. This character, at the whim of the author in the film, is responsible for charm, sometimes even sex appeal. Her pretty face evokes sympathy, the character is the most modest and timid of the four, but under the influence of emotions is able to make a lot of noise. Kristen Wiig is known for the cinema community for her work in the films "Hen Night in Vegas", "Gender: The Secret Material", "The Martian" and "Full Foolish". By the way, before the start of her acting career, the performer worked in the field of plastic surgery. Her television debut took place in 2003.
The role of long-time friend Erin, Dr. Abby Yates, was played by Melissa McCarthy. The performer can be safely characterized as a regular in the directorial works of Feig. In “Hunters”, her heroine is responsible for “combat power”. The actress had to try on an unusual role, Melissa McCarthy fights, flies on ropes, jumps, falls and does stunt tricks. But in general, according to expert estimates, both performers have to remain in the shadow of the heroine Kate McKinnon, playing almost adequate, sane, normal, and therefore somewhat boring scientists.
Madly Hyperactive Gillian Holtzmann and Patty Tolan
The third hunter - Gillian Holtzmann is a real highlight of the project, the character of actress Kate McKinnon is comparable to a thermonuclear reactor. The performer is simply magnificent in the image of a crazy hyperactive scientist, creating all kinds of technical devices for the team. Each appearance of the heroine in the frame overshadows absolutely everyone, every time the story slows down, McKinnon corrects the situation, twisting to the maximum all his recklessness, a mixture with one glance or unsurpassed facial expressions.
The fourth member of the team was African-American Patty Tolan (actress Leslie Jones). In the case of this character, the authors of the project should pay tribute, the heroine is allotted many times more screen time than her prototype from the original tape. Patty is the only one without a scientific degree, in this respect she is the opposite of her companions. But the heroine is a true patriot of her native city, who knows the metropolis like the back of her hand.
Secretary Kevin
Also in the comedy Ghostbusters, the plot introduces the beholder to the only man in the group’s main cast. Physically superbly developed, but secretary behind the heroines in intellectual development, secretary Kevin Beckman perfectly dilutes the women's team. Actor Chris Hemsworth probably added the best supporting comedic role to his filmography. He gained worldwide popularity as a strong and courageous Thor from the franchise on Marvel comics, and now he has proved to everyone that he is not without self-irony. His character is weirder than all the ghosts combined.
Cameo
In the film “Ghostbusters” (2016), the actors who played the main roles competed with the attracted stars who appeared in the movie in a cameo. Bill Murray appeared in the comedy, although the director was not able to realize a third of his potential. Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver appeared as grouchy pensioners. Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson were more fortunate, they play a more significant role in the development of the plot. As a result, unexpectedly for everyone, the best and funniest cameo was Ozzy Osbourne.
Successful restart
In general, the picture of 2016 does not in any way tarnish the cult original, while surpassing its sequel, demonstrating the authors' respect for the 1984 film. In the comedy “Ghostbusters” (2016), the actors play beautifully, entertaining and amusing the audience, preserving the atmosphere inherent in a respectable summer blockbuster. Therefore, you should not believe everything that is written in individual reviews and reviews, Paul Feig got an original restart, which, definitely, is worth recommending for viewing.
