Drawing hands is quite difficult and the best way to learn this is to practice a lot. Drawing anime hands is a little easier than realistic, since a large number of details are simplified. But the overall structure and proportions of the hands remain the same.
Open hand drawing
For beginners, it is worth starting to learn how to draw a hand with an open palm in order to better understand the proportions. As a reference, you can use other drawings or photographs, or simply carefully examine your own hands.
Here's how to draw anime hands in stages:
- Make a rough sketch of your palm, and then draw another shape to depict the base of the thumb.
- We sketch the fingers. Their length is approximately equal to the length of the palm. The tip of the thumb, if drawn at an angle of 45 degrees, is just below the bone of the 2nd joint of the index finger.
- When drawing fingers, note that they consist of 3 parts. The distance from the fingertip to the first joint is the smallest, and from the knuckle to the lower joint the largest.
- Draw the general shape of the fingers.
- Erase excess lines, add details.
Side brush drawing
A side view is a difficult position of the brush for the image, but it is found most often. To draw an anime hand in this position, first sketch the fingerless brush and then draw the shape of the base of the thumb
Draw a thumb and forefinger that are clearly visible. Then, with your index finger, start drawing the tips of your other fingers. You can make a light sketch of the latter in full length in order to better understand the location of their invisible parts and to avoid errors when drawing visible ones. For example, if you see only the tip of the little finger, but do not take into account the length of the rest of the finger, you can end up drawing the tip too high or too low.
After drawing all the fingers, erase the unnecessary lines and add details.
How to draw an anime hand squeezed
This hand position can be used when portraying a character carrying a bag or bag.
First draw the general shape of the whole arm in this position. Next, depict a side view of the palm. After that, outline the outline of all the fingers and sketch the little finger.
To better understand how to draw the rest of your fingers, you can use the same method as when depicting a hand on the side.
Mark the proportions and location of the thumb. Wipe the unwanted lines, draw a path and add details.
Fist drawing
To draw an anime hand clenched into a fist, first make a rough sketch that resembles a pentagon with rounded vertices. On top, draw a slightly jagged rounded rectangle to mark the location of the fingers.
Draw the base of the thumb and outline the location of its rest. After that, draw the finger itself.
The remaining fingers need to be drawn a little thicker than usual to show that they are squeezed. Also keep in mind that in a clenched fist, the fingers slightly diverge from the base of the thumb.
After you finish the sketch, erase the excess and add the necessary details.
Male and female hands
Male and female hands in anime are drawn basically the same way. However, there are several differences in the close-up image of the hands.
To draw the hands of anime girls, they are usually made thinner and sleeker with long nails. Male hands usually do comparatively larger in size.
