Katniss Everdeen - the main character in the cult trilogy of the famous American writer S. Collins, The Hunger Games. The girl immediately entered the list of the most popular heroines not only in world literature, but also in cinema. A strong character, strong will and determination allowed her to overcome all the obstacles posed by the government of the Capitol, and with honor to get out of terrible trials with the help of friends.
Brief description of the trilogy
Katniss Everdeen is a fictional character in books dedicated to the fantastic conditional world Panem, which is located in North America. Books were published in 2008-2010 and immediately became bestsellers in the world literary market. For two years, the novels were in the TOP of the best-selling works of the year. The ideological basis of the plot was mythical ideas about Theseus and the Minotaur, modern entertainment programs in the format of the show, as well as military themes. The combination of the last two elements became the most original part of the works: the struggle for survival, reminiscent of a real war, taking place in the form of a game, became the main engine of the plot. The popularity of the trilogy increased after the release of the eponymous trilogy on the world screens, which became one of the famous franchises in the fantasy genre.
A family
Katniss Everdeen lived in a fictional place in the 12th district, in the fantastic extra-historic city of Panem. It was a coal mining region, the bulk of the inhabitants of which worked in mines. The father of the main character was also a worker. The girl was very attached to him. Together they hunted in the local forest, and the parent taught her to recognize various plants and swim in a small pond. However, he died in a coal mine explosion, when the heroine was only 11 years old, and this terrible tragedy was a blow to her psyche. For a long time she had nightmares in which she again experienced the death of her father. Katniss Everdeen had a younger sister, Primrose, whom she loved very much and for which she volunteered to participate in the games of the Capitol. After the death of her husband, the girl’s mother became depressed, from which she could not recover, could not work and provide for her daughters, so the heroine had to take everything on herself. She did not like her mother for her weakness, but still cared for her.
Work and friends
In order to somehow feed her family, Katniss Everdeen initially collected the remnants of food in landfills. Once the baker’s wife noticed her and began to drive the girl away, but her son Pete took pity on the orphan and began to give her bread. So they became friends. After some time, the heroine, remembering her skills, decided to get food by hunting. She expertly owned onions, was able to find the right plants. The girl sold the bulk of the booty at the local black market. Once she met Gale, who also hunted in the same forest. Since then, they began to work together. After a while, the young man fell in love with her, but hid his feelings.
Character
Katniss Everdeen, Pete took part in the "hunger games" organized by the Capitol government. In overcoming the trials, the girl showed an extraordinary mind, strong will, ingenuity, endurance and remarkable physical strength, which more than once helped her out in difficult conditions. Many critics noted that the success of the work is largely due to the original image of the heroine, on which lies the main ideological burden of the entire work. The whale is an integral nature, which is proved by her following statement: "What I feel belongs only to me." She is restrained, closed by nature, but open to communication and friendship.
Thus, the main engine of the plot was not so much the adventures themselves that took place with the heroes, but Katniss Everdeen herself. Actress D. Lawrence, who successfully embodied her image on the screen, very accurately and truthfully conveyed the extraordinary nature of the girl.
Appearance
The heroine has a very colorful appearance. At first glance, she looks like the inhabitants of her district: she has dark curly hair braided in a braid, gray eyes and olive skin. However, her face reflects her inherent psychological traits of character: strength, will, courage. In this respect, Katniss Everdeen stands out from other characters in the novel. Actress Lawrence outwardly ideally suited this role. The writer herself admitted that the girl was able to fully convey the image of the heroine. A distinctive sign of the heroine is a pin in the form of a mockingjay, presented to her by her best friend. Subsequently, this image became a symbol of resistance.
Show participation
Katniss Everdeen from the movie The Hunger Games goes through a series of ordeals arranged by showmen. In this, she acquired the skills acquired from her father. In addition, she took advantage of the advice of Haymitch, who became her mentor and friend. He was the only survivor of the 12 district and used his experience to help the young participants. Throughout the show, the heroine left the group that was chasing her literally on the heels. One of the most famous moments is the scene in the forest, during which the girl managed to neutralize her pursuers with the help of cunning. In this she was helped by a local girl who soon died. In the end, Kitiniss and Pete survived, and they had to fight, so both decided to eat poisonous berries in order to avoid a direct collision. However, the government of the Capitol could not allow the deaths of participants, so they were declared both winners.
Leader of the uprising
After winning the games, Katniss became a real symbol of the uprising of districts against the authorities. At first, the government decided to use its influence and authority to prevent a revolution. For some time, the girl was forced to maneuver between the warring parties, trying to avoid bloodshed, but soon became the leader of the uprising. Katniss Everdeen, whose quotes prove her willpower and courage, inspired a riot by her personal example of the inhabitants. The following statement says that she was always ready for the fight: "The most difficult thing is to find courage in yourself."
The revolution ended with the victory of the rebels, the Capitol was destroyed, and the terrible games stopped forever. The development of a love relationship between the heroine and Pete was also determined: both openly explained. Subsequently, the heroine married him and gave birth to a boy and a girl from him.
Critic reviews
Most literary observers praised the image created by Collins. They emphasize that it is the heroines of this kind that are relevant and popular in our time. However, some say that the girl lacks at least some of the femininity. However, the authors point out that this is due to difficult conditions in which she spent her childhood and youth.
