Today we’ll talk about one of the most interesting and exciting mystical films released in 2007 - 1408. This artistic picture of American production was shot based on the story of the same name by writer Stephen King. The director was the Swede Michael Hafström; The film debuted in June 2007.
"1408" is one of those paintings in which the creators try to put as many interesting details and references as possible. The release of the film on digital media was accompanied by various additional materials, such as: deleted scenes, alternative endings "1408" and much more.
Plot plot
The main character, a writer named Mike Enslin, studies various paranormal phenomena and works on a book about mysterious phenomena and ghosts in hotels. Mike is a cynic, so he does not believe in ghosts or other inexplicable things. Once he receives a postcard with an advertisement for the New York hotel "Dolphin", which reports on a certain dangerous number 1408.
Enslin, who suspected the hotel administration of a publicity stunt and led by a desire to put them "in clear water," immediately goes to New York. Arriving at the Dolphin, he demands to give him the number 1408. At first, the senior manager, Gerald Olin, tries to warn the writer that living in this room can turn into a real nightmare. The fact is that all the guests who have ever been accommodated in room 1408 (and there were exactly 56 of them) were found dead - some committed suicide, others died for natural reasons. Despite all the persuasion of the manager and the tales of real evil, Mike Enslin remains adamant.
Main action
At first, nothing strange happened in the room. Mike begins to keep an audio diary and writes down all his thoughts about the whole situation. However, soon the clock begins a countdown of 60 minutes, during which truly inexplicable and terrible events will occur with the main character. At some point, he will even think that he managed to escape from the ill-fated number 1408, however, as if in a nightmare, this would be another trap.
When Enslin miraculously manages to survive the hour in room 1408, he realizes that he has become a hostage to an endless loop. Soon, a bell rings from the reception of the hotel and Mike is informed that the nightmarish events will be repeated again and again, but he also has an alternative choice - to take his own life. At the end of the film, the hero realizes to start a fire and escape from the room alive. The only evidence of what happened in 1408 was the recordings on the recorder.
In addition to the canonical finale, there are three alternative endings to the film "1408" (2007). One of them was included in the directorial version of the picture, and the other two are optional.
The final of the directorial version of the film
The alternative directorial ending “1408” is similar to the canonical one: Mike decides to set the devil’s number on fire and sets off a fire that finally attracts people's attention. But he himself does not manage to escape. The audience is shown the funeral scene, after which it becomes clear that the recorder with all the recordings remained in the hands of Gerald Olin.
Other alternative endings "1408"
In one of the other additional finals, Enslin also ends up dead. A little later we can observe a scene in which the editor receives a Mike manuscript containing a description of the events that occurred in number 1408. At the same time, nothing is known about the sender of the manuscript.
The last alternative ending "1408" resembles a rolling one, the one in which Mike Enslin survives the fire and returns to his wife. The main difference is that in the last scene, when the hero listens to the recorder, Mike’s wife is too busy with household chores and as a result does not hear the voice of her dead daughter.
