Historical information
Karelian State Philharmonic Society (Petrozavodsk) was built in 1939. To be more precise, on January 15 of this year, the Council of People's Commissars of the Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic issued a decree on the opening of the Philharmonic. The main goal of the work was to rapidly increase the cultural identity of the working people, to promote the best musical works of Russian and foreign classics, to popularize the music of the Soviet Union, creativity, works of Soviet writers and composers.
Structure
The philharmonic society included a symphony orchestra, the state national ensemble of folk songs and dances “Kantele”, a state choir consisting of 42 people, and a vocal and pop group. The grand opening of the first season took place on October 5 and 6, 1939. He was dedicated to Russian classical music. By 1940, the Karelian-Finnish State Philharmonic Society (it was renamed) numbered more than 300 people.
War time
As you know, the summer of 1941 was marked by the beginning of the war with Germany. At the same time, the war with Finland was resumed. Naturally, this could not have a favorable effect on the work of the creative team. War always brings ruin and tears, but not only. Often it unites people and helps to find a ray of light in the darkness. This is exactly what happened in our history. The Philharmonic became the unifying factor, the “ray” that brought people together. Music is a unique phenomenon that raises our spirit, makes our soul tremble. To date, scientists have proven what a striking effect on human condition can have classical music. In moments of devastation and unrest, people turn to art as a lifebuoy. From June to September, the Philharmonic gave more than 500 concerts, which gathered a huge number of comers. Music has become the only outlet for people.
In early October, the Soviet army left the city, and the philharmonic society ceased its activity. The performers switched to musical comedy, and the famous and beloved Kantele ensemble was evacuated to the outback. Since 1953, the Philharmonic Society was in charge of the Arts Department of the Karelian-Finnish SSR, and since 1956 - the Ministry of Culture of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

Concert groups
The composition includes a quartet of Russian folk instruments Exprompt and two orchestras (the Onego Symphony Orchestra and Russian Folk Instruments Orchestra).
The Exprompt quartet performs traditional Russian, classical, world and jazz music on folk instruments (button accordion, balalaika, domra, etc.). This is the main highlight of the quartet. Such an unusual performance leads listeners to bewilderment, and then to complete delight! The ensemble was created in Petrozavodsk in 1995. Active work did not go unnoticed, and talented performers were invited to the State Philharmonic. The Karelian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra is considered one of the largest in the north-west of Russia. It began its activities back in 1933 by decree of the Council of People's Commissars. Over the entire period of its existence, the orchestra has changed about 4 names. Only in 1997, he officially joined the State Philharmonic. At different times, the conductors of the orchestra were K. Simeonov, V. Kataev, Yu. Aronovich, V. Chernushenko, A. Shteinlukh and others. Today, the orchestra includes 79 musicians, who for the most part are graduates of the Petrozavodsk and St. Petersburg Conservatories.
The repertoire of the Onego Russian folk instrument orchestra includes more than two thousand diverse works: classical in processing, arias, Russian folk songs and dances, romances, etc. The orchestra first entered the House of Culture at the Tractor Plant in 1975. Only in 1993 he became a member of the Karelian Philharmonic. From the day of the creation of the collective to the present day, the orchestra leader has been the conductor G. Mironov, Honored Artist of Russia. In 2013, the orchestra was awarded the Sampo Prize. Today, the team has 45 musicians.
Philharmonic (Petrozavodsk): repertoire
