Joffrey Lannister (also known as Baratheon) is the eldest son of Queen Cersei and the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, who ascended the throne as heir to King Robert. The character was played by the talented Irish actor Jack Gleeson.
Lannister or Baratheon?
Despite the fact that in the world of Westeros, Joffrey was long considered the son of Robert Baratheon, he, his brother and sister were born as a result of the relationship between Cersei and Jaime. In books, the character's description presents him as a strong-willed child, which combines a vicious disposition and a tendency to sadism.
The main detail that finally gives out to Joffrey Lannister is his blond hair. During the investigation, Eddard Stark finds out that all the bastards that Robert had ever had were brunettes. A little later, during a confrontation with Cersei, important details of one of the main storylines of the saga are revealed - in fact, Joffrey is not the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

In various scenes, Joffrey appears accompanied by his bodyguard, the formidable Sandor Cleagan, also known as the “Dog”. Even before becoming the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, the boy managed to demonstrate his not the best qualities. He showed himself a spoiled, arrogant and cowardly youth, prone to the manifestation of sadism. After ascending the throne, all these qualities, for which fans of books and series did not like Joffrey so much, intensified several times.
First season
At the beginning of the series, Joffrey is engaged to Eddard Stark's daughter, Sansa. From the very first episodes, viewers could understand what kind of monster the future heir to the throne is. So, after the coronation, Joffrey orders to destroy all the bastards of Robert Baratheon. At the same time, Sansa is trying to beg forgiveness from her future husband for Eddard, who is being held in prison. At first, Joffrey plays along with Sansa and his mother, promising that he will allow Lord Stark to go to serve in the Night Watch. His only condition is that Eddard must recognize him as the rightful ruler. Ultimately, Joffrey Lannister does not keep his promise and executes the "traitor" in front of the entire Royal Harbor.
Second season
In the new season, Joffrey's behavior is only getting worse. He begins to scoff at Sansa morally and physically, ordering his guard to beat her. His only reaction to the outbreak of the Five Kings War is to take refuge in his own castle, avoiding any contact with ordinary people. At the same time, he continues to tell everyone about his greatness and about future victories over the enemies of the Crown. In one episode, Joffrey and his retinue are attacked by an angry mob who is about to lynch their ruler right in the middle of the street.
During the battle at Blackwater Harbor, the young king promises everyone that he will kill Stannis Baratheon. When the business begins to take a dangerous turn, he shows his cowardice and hides in the castle, leaving behind his main uncle Tirion. After defeating Stannis, Joffrey, at the suggestion of the Small Council, terminates the engagement to Stark's daughter and announces an imminent wedding with Margery Tyrell. At the end of the season, we see the king more and more indulging in his sadistic inclinations and committing the first murder.
Third season
In an attempt to change the negative mood of society, the future wife of Joffrey Lannister, Margery, is trying to show the king for the better. She advises him to meet with his subjects at the entrance to the Great Septa. The plan works and Joffrey and Margery become the new darlings of the people.
One of the key events of the third season is the wedding of Tyrion Lannister and Sansa Stark, and, of course, Joffrey does not miss the opportunity to mock his uncle and ex-bride. Before everyone's eyes, he gets rid of the chair, which was supposed to help the dwarf climb up to throw a family cloak on his wife's shoulders. Later, during a festive feast, Joffrey informs Sansa of his intention to rape her on a wedding night.
Fourth Season: Purple Wedding
Many fans of the saga eagerly awaited reprisal against the young ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, because, as you know, in the world of Westeros, no one can remain safe. The question of in which season Joffrey Lannister dies, was raised more and more often and, finally, with the release of the fourth season, he received his long-awaited answer.
During his own wedding, Joffrey continues to behave in the most vile way. He arranges an insulting performance of dwarfs and invites Tyrion to participate in it. After the refusal, it occurs to him to disgrace his uncle even more - he pours him wine and makes him serve himself.
In an attempt to get the attention of the guests, Margery announces the holiday cake and reports that live pigeons are hidden in it. Joffrey cuts the served pie with his sword and kills some of the birds. After that, he takes a piece to try, but complains of dryness and requires Tyrion to serve wine. Having drunk from a glass, he begins to go into a severe cough, he begins to profuse salivation and hemorrhage in the eyes. After a few painful minutes, the young king dies.
After what happened at the Purple Wedding, the younger brother of Joffrey Lannister, Tomen, becomes the heir to the Iron Throne. The blame for the murder falls on Tyrion, and Sansa escapes with the help of Petir Bailish. Cersei demands the execution of his brother and intends to bring the plan to the end, convinced that it was Tyrion who poisoned her son.
