The first season of the highest-budget series of the last decade, created by Jonathan Nolan in the genre of science fiction, allows you to distinguish between the modern project and the picture âWild West Worldâ by Michael Crichton in 1973, which influenced not only his eponymous conditional remake, but also many movie horror films.
Distinction of plots
Modern and old projects differ not only in format and timing. Jonathan Nolan completely rethought the source material, fundamentally reworking it. In the original Wild West World, the actors portrayed robots that got out of control mainly with negative characters, and people with positive characters. Nolan intentionally turned everything upside down. In his series, representatives of human civilization, destroying androids for the sake of their desires, behave like real villains. Cyborgs in the modern interpretation are positioned as oppressed victims, who one day end their patience and wake up pride. By the way, in the series, robots are almost impossible to distinguish from tourists, so empathizing with them is much easier.
Main moral
In The World of the Wild West (1973), the actors directed all their efforts to emphasize the moral message of the picture that impunity and hedonism inevitably lead to barbarism, and the reason for the failure did not explain in any way - that was all. The series is more focused on demonstrating worry about robots, so new characters appear in the narrative, which were not at all in the original film. This difference means that Crichtonâs tape can be watched without fear, since the rustic picture is not able to spoil the philosophical dramatic television project of Nolan.
The fruit of the works of a novelist
"The World of the Wild West" (front-end actors: J. Brinner and R. Benjamin) is the author's brainchild of Michael Crichton, who acted as screenwriter and director. The plot of the amusement park, with the rebellious inhabitants cracking down on visitors, is somewhat reminiscent of the Jurassic Park. This is not surprising, since the novel underlying the cult picture of Spielberg came from the pen of Crichton.
Initially, the inspiration behind the writing of the novel was a visit to the Space Center by a writer. The writer was astounded by the training of the astronauts. And the idea of ââthe film came from Crichton when riding a Disneyland attraction âPirates of the Caribbeanâ, the attention of the novelist was attracted by automated filibusters.
The actors of the film âThe World of the Wild Westâ (1973) were proud of participating in the project, since the achievements of computer graphics were first used in it. Of course, from the position of the current film-making, M. Crichtonâs work has a lot of stylistic and plot flaws, but the special effects for the 70s look revolutionary. For the first time in the history of the film industry, the director showed the world through the eyes of an android, which, after the premiere of the film, instantly became the most popular film reception.
Role model
The film "World of the Wild West" actors and whose roles became the prototypes for the characters and performers of Nolan, became a source of inspiration for many visionaries of our time. The main character - a notorious villain in the 1973 film was played by an emigrant from Russia Yul Brynner. The actor was born in Vladivostok. His real name is Briner Julius Borisovich. Popularity performer brought the project "Magnificent Seven." And the image of the robot arrow in the adaptation of Crichton cemented his success. From his character, Yul decided to make a parody of the hero of the "Magnificent Seven", so he starred in "The World" in the same suit. Nevertheless, Shooter inspired many prominent visionaries: John Carpenter sketched his Halloween maniac Michael Myers from him, James Cameron recommended Arnold Schwarzenegger to pay attention to this character in preparation for the shooting of Terminator. By the way, at a certain stage, Schwarzenegger intended to produce the series and play the role of Strelka in it, previously embodied by Yul Brynner.

2016 series
The producers of the modern television show decided not to save on either effects or performers. In the new film, World of the Wild West, actors Ed Harris, James Marsden, Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Wood, Luke Hemsworth, Rodrigo Santoro, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal and Ben Barnes appear in each episode of the first season. Casting the series would honor many blockbusters, and this is by no means an exaggeration.
Although the preparatory process did not go without twists and turns. Miranda Otto, taking part in the filming of the pilot of the series, broke the contract for the 5th season of âHomelandâ. Therefore, Teresa Cullen was subsequently embodied on the screen by Sidse Babette Knudsen.
During the casting of the TV show âWorld of the Wild Westâ, actors E. R. Wood and E. Hopkins were the first to sign a contract with the creators of the project and were immediately approved for the roles of Abernathy and Dr. Ford.
In the original film, the image of the owner of the park was embodied by Richard Attenborough, with Nolan this role is played by Anthony Hopkins. An interesting fact is that this performer starred in Attenboroughâs directorial projects five times, in the films Young Winston, The Bridge Too Far, Magic, Chaplin and Land of Shadows.
Ben Barnes, approved for the role of a depraved regular park, managed to break his leg the day before filming began. The actor deliberately kept silent about the incident, as he was afraid of losing the opportunity to star in Nolan. As a result, his limp became Logan's hallmark.
"Thoughts of the bot"
According to the performers who embodied the images of robots, it was very difficult for them to work. According to Rachel Wood, who played Dolores Abernathy, all the actors of the âWild West Worldâ constantly asked a lot of questions, trying to portray androids in the most organic way. They even classified their doubts as âbot thoughts.â During the filming process, controversial moments constantly arose, from which the image of the characters later formed.
