Young parents know firsthand about stomatitis. Young children pull everything in their mouths, and keeping track of the purity of everything that a small child wishes to try for a tooth is almost impossible. Therefore, stomatitis (inflammation of the oral mucosa) is usually perceived as a disease of unwashed hands.
Stomatitis in the mouth appears as a result of a weakened immune system, the use of antibiotics or non-compliance with the rules of oral hygiene. Normally, a large number of microorganisms “sleeps” in a healthy mouth, if for the above reasons there is a chance to “become active” with this microbe, they use it with pleasure, resulting in inflammation of the mucous membrane.
What this is manifested in: redness of the mucosa and the appearance of ulcers, which can be either single or numerous. They complicate the process of swallowing, cause discomfort when eating or during a conversation. The temperature rises, weakness and apathy occur.
Stomatitis, the treatment of which in most cases takes from 5 to 10 days, can appear in both a child and an adult, and men, according to statistics, are more susceptible to this disease than women. In adults, stomatitis can be caused by poor oral hygiene (decayed caries, untreated teeth), as well as impaired dental manipulation techniques (microtrauma, poor quality fillings, etc.). In this case, the mucous membrane swells, reddens, becomes covered with a white coating, the gums bleed, an unpleasant odor from the mouth appears .
In addition, there are cases when stomatitis appears as a result of violations of the gastrointestinal tract. In such cases, the disease is more severe, more time is required for treatment.
If you suspect that you or your baby has stomatitis, treatment should be prescribed by a doctor, analyzing the picture of the disease. Do not self-medicate, since what you take for stomatitis may be a different disease, and self-medication in the best case will be futile.
Stomatitis: treatment
Therapeutic procedures include a sparing diet, treatment of the oral cavity with special drugs and thorough oral hygiene. During the treatment period, it is recommended to eat food neutral in terms of acidity, which is rich in vitamins and will not irritate the mucous membrane. The temperature of the food will have to be slightly adjusted to a new threshold of sensitivity (there can be no question of hot coffee or ice cream).
At home, you can use drugs such as "Stomafit", "Hexoral", spray "Oracept", tablets "Imudon", antiseptic agents. Sores in the mouth can be treated with hydrogen peroxide, brilliant green solution, streptocide powder with sodium tetraborate (20%).
In addition, in the treatment of stomatitis, you can use Vinylin ointment, rinsing the oral cavity with herbal infusions, green tea, and even honey.
We can talk about two methods of treating stomatitis: medical and folk.
Stomatitis: medical treatment
A set of therapeutic measures depends on the severity of the disease. If the child's condition is serious, he has a high temperature, then, in addition to treating the oral cavity with a disinfectant solution, antibiotics are prescribed. Treatment may include taking medications inside, taking anesthetics (if pain interferes with eating, talking), B vitamins.
