Eye drops 'Albucid': instructions for use

Eye drops "Albucid" is an antibacterial drug with a bacteriostatic effect, which is used in ophthalmology for the prevention and direct treatment of eye diseases of infectious origin: conjunctivitis, blepharitis, keratitis and so on. It is widely used to prevent the development of infection after surgery.

Eye drops "Albucid" are relatively low cost and high efficiency.

The main active ingredient of this drug is sulfacetamide, which can be 20% or 30%, i.e. 1 ml of the solution contains 20 and 30 mg of this substance, respectively. Also drops for eyes โ€œAlbucidโ€ contain auxiliary components: purified water, hydrochloric acid, sodium thiosulfate. They are available in sterile plastic bottles.

Sulfacetamide is a substance with antimicrobial properties, belonging to the group of sulfonamides, which is highly soluble in water. Eye drops "Albucid" have a local effect, freely penetrate into the tissues of the eye. The bacteriostatic effect of this drug means that microorganisms cease to multiply under its influence, which is ensured by a violation of the synthesis of substances vital for pathogens. Eye drops "Albucid" are active against staphylococci, E. coli, streptococci, gonococci, chlamydia and so on.

In the treatment of infectious diseases localized in the anterior parts of the eye (blepharitis, purulent conjunctivitis, purulent corneal ulcers) caused by microorganisms sensitive to sulfacetamide, "Albucid" is used. Eye drops for children are used to prevent inflammation of the purulent nature of the eyes. In adults, a 30% solution of eye drops is used, and a 20% solution in children.

The dosage of this drug depends on the severity of the inflammation in the tissues of the eye. In the acute phase, it is necessary to apply 3 drops in each eye up to 6 times a day. When the condition improves, the instillation rate gradually decreases.

In the presence of individual intolerance to sulfonamides, this drug can not be used.

When applying eye drops "Albucid" as a result of side effects, burning, lacrimation, edema and hyperemia of the conjunctiva, itching of the skin of the eyelids may develop. If these reactions appear during their use, it is necessary to use a solution of a lower concentration.

If this drug is used too often, eye irritation may develop: lacrimation, swelling of the eye mucosa, hyperemia, itching of the skin of the eyelids and so on. There are two possible solutions to this problem: reduce the frequency of instillation or the concentration of the drug.

Please note, eye drops "Albucid" can not be used simultaneously with medicines containing silver salts.

Direct interaction of sulfacetamide solution and soft contact lenses should not be allowed, as this can cause a change in the transparency of the latter. Before applying these eye drops, contact lenses must be removed. The use of soft contact lenses for purulent eye diseases is contraindicated.

Cross allergy can be observed in patients with hypersensitivity to the diuretics of the thiazide group, sulfonylurea derivatives, glibenclamide.

The weakening of the action of "Albucidum" occurs with the simultaneous appointment of local anesthetics (tetracaine, procaine).

An opened bottle must be used within 28 days. It must be stored at a temperature of 8-15 ยฐ C. This drug is dispensed without a prescription.
