Nikolai Plotnikov - actor, director and teacher. According to different sources, the date of birth is different: October 23 or 24, 1897. His father worked as a hairdresser. The boy studied at the gymnasium in the city of Vyazma until the sixth grade. In 1910, tragic events occurred in the family, and Kolya was sent by his aunt to study in another city. Nikolai’s mother fell ill from her illness, her father had a heart break. Died, could not cope with the shock sister.

Aunt sent Kolya to Petersburg. There, the boy lived with uncle Sergei Ivanovich Kushchenko. Sergey Ivanovich worked as a director in typography. There were many artists in the Plotnikov family, and the little Kolya got the gift of drawing. At first, the boy studied at a printing press, where he performed various tasks. For example, he went to a grocery store, made tea for craftsmen, and cleaned the workshop. Later, Nikolai Plotnikov was trained at a drawing school.

In 1915, Nikolai left for the capital, entered the typography of Mashistov. Here he received his first order. Nikolai had to come up with and draw a label for chocolate. The order was for the current factory under the name Red October. Among his works are also advertising posters of beer factories and labels for sweets of the current "Bolshevik", at that time it was called the Siu factory. The salary increased significantly, and Plotnikov could afford a lot.

In the spring of 1916 he was drafted into the army. Nicholas was identified in Rostov-on-Don to study at the corporal school. After that, I decided to return again to Mashistov’s lithography. For two years since 1918 he studied at the Moscow Art Theater Studio.
