How to cure snot in infants in an affordable and safe way

Panting, sneezing, jerking breasts - all these signs accompany snot in a baby. A clogged nose prevents the little one from breathing fully, which naturally affects feeding and sleep. The kid is very ill and he urgently needs help.

The main symptoms of a runny nose in infants are similar to those that occur in a human adult. The same sinus congestion, discharge from the nose and constant sneezing. As a rule, the cause of a severe cold (aka rhinitis) is an infection. But here it is important to know that snot in a newborn can be caused by other types of rhinitis: neurovegetative, vasomotor or allergic.

An infectious rhinitis can occur against a background of a variety of infections in the airways.

An allergic type of rhinitis is caused by an allergen.

Vasomotor runny nose becomes a consequence of a violation of the autonomic relationship of blood vessels with the central nervous system.

In order to prescribe the right treatment, it is extremely important to establish the cause of rhinitis in the baby in time.

Unlike an adult common cold, in infants this type of disease proceeds somewhat differently, especially in babies up to a year old. The problem is that at this age, the child cannot yet independently release his nose from the accumulating mucus. In addition, the structure of the nose in the baby contributes to a more severe course of rhinitis.

Medical preparations

If snot appeared in the baby, doctors recommend using the Derinat immunomodulator (Russian-made), which is allowed to be used from the first days of the life of newborns. The drug is released in the form of drops, with which the baby's nose is instilled from two to four times a day. This drug is not only well tolerated, but also fights against germs that cause rhinitis.

It is very important not to let the mucus that accumulates in the nose dry out, this will lead to the fact that the baby begins to breathe through the mouth, and this is already a risk of contracting pneumonia or bronchitis.

The most common and affordable way to get rid of rhinitis is to rinse the baby's sinuses with saline (saline). Every thirty minutes, you can drip three to four drops in the nose, without fear of an overdose. Also, snot in newborns can be treated by washing with drops of "Aquamaris".

Drops that help narrow the vessels, "Nazivin", can be used no more than three days. You can use the drug "Laferon", instilling in the nose a couple of droplets two to three times a day. The popular drug "Delufen" can also be used twice a day, but only in spray. It is better to entrust the choice of the drug to the doctor (with the exception of saline solutions), who will recommend the best remedy in this or that case. What definitely should not be done is to drip all the medicines in a row in a small nose in the hope that this will help to cope with the disease faster.

General tips

Snot in infants should not only be treated with drugs, it is important to do this in combination with general recommendations. The feet of the baby should be warm, avoid drafts. Breastfeed your child as often as possible. If the baby is already eating the mixture, be sure to give him more drink (it can be water, baby tea, compote). And do not forget about disinfection measures! Remember the advice of the grandmothers, who laid out chopped garlic on plates in all rooms.

Snot in a baby can be removed with the help of such a wonderful helper as a snot exhaust. It is especially useful for severe forms of rhinitis, severe nose congestion.

To treat the common cold in infants, not only traditional, but also traditional medicine is widely used, which has been tested by more than one generation.

Kalanchoe juice is a great example. Choose one of the lower leaves of the plant, rinse it and squeeze the juice. Then filter through several times folded cheesecloth, in order to avoid getting the pulp into the solution. To the smallest children, the juice is diluted 1 to 1 with breast milk, older children - with water (boiled). It is important to consider the following point. You can bury it with juice if the baby’s nose is not too swollen so that it is possible not only to sneeze, but also to get rid of snot (which simply “fly out”). With stuffy sinuses, first instill with a children's vasoconstrictor. Kalanchoe juice helps to quickly overcome a runny nose, but in some cases it can lead to deterioration. Therefore, it must be used very moderately and carefully (especially for the first time).
