Oregano - this name came to us from the Latin language. Origanum vulgar - this is the full name of this herbaceous plant. Since ancient times, others have been used in Russia - oregano, motherboard, frankincense, and yawn.
Oregano is a fragrant
herb. Its use directly depends on the high content of essential oils and its smell. First of all, in the perfumery and cosmetics industry and in cooking. Oregano is an indispensable natural fragrance for soap, cologne, toothpaste or lipstick.
In cooking, oregano is used to make various spicy mixtures. For example, it is a part of pastes and sausages, it is added to stew, baked and fried meat, to various gravy. Dried oregano goes well with a wide variety of products: mushrooms and cucumbers, cottage cheese and eggs, meat dishes and pies, as well as other spices.
Oregano has also been widely used in medicine. The first information about the use of plants for healing comes from the teacher Alexander the Great - Aristotle. Three centuries later, Virgil in Aeneid gives a romantic story about how the
goddess Venus cured the Trojan hero Aeneas with an oregano. They say that even Zeus was fed with the milk of the divine goat Amolphae, which fed exclusively on this plant and the
honey of wild bees.
Oregano has a whole bunch of positive qualities and is used for a wide variety of diseases, has a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract, calms the nervous system, normalizes intestinal motility and respiratory function, and has a general strengthening effect on the body. Doctors say that the oil of this plant has a much wider use than dried leaves and stems. Oregano oil is a substance with unique bactericidal and antiviral properties. In addition, it is used to treat or prevent certain infections. For example, to remove intestinal parasites and skin fungus. Oregano oil alleviates itching from bites of blood-sucking insects and is used to prevent stomatitis and sinusitis.
It decomposes in the light, so it must be stored in a dark glass container out of the reach of light.
The use of the plant has its contraindications. For women, this is a categorical prohibition on oregano and products from it during the entire period of pregnancy. For men: regular and plentiful consumption of a plant in food can negatively affect potency. In addition, there is individual intolerance.
And the rest is a very useful plant - oregano. Spices, which it contains, have long and firmly taken a place in our diet. Oregano-oregano tea is very fragrant (excuse me for the tautology), and decoctions, infusions and oil of this plant are an excellent tool for treating a variety of diseases. Moreover, it is a wonderful honey plant, and its dry grass is used by beekeepers to fight wax moth. Oregano is almost a natural illustration for the proverb "And the Swiss, and the reaper, and the igrets ...”
