Young children love to draw and are often asked to help parents. So many of them are asking questions about how to draw a three-year-old baby elephant or how to draw a wolf to a five-year-old child. It’s easier to solve the first question: you can draw any creature, because elephants are not found in zoos, but it will be more difficult to deal with really existing animals. This lesson will teach you how to draw a wolf for children with a pencil in stages.
At the first stages, do not press the pencil hard, use light, slightly noticeable lines. To arrange the elements in the figure correctly, carefully look at the sample before starting work.
At each stage, those lines that were drawn in its course are highlighted in red.
Draw the base shapes
Draw a circle on the upper right side as the basis for the head of the howling wolf. A circle doesn't have to be perfect, it's just a sketch. Leave enough space below for the body of the wolf.
Draw a couple of arcs at the top of the head as guides for the wolf face. The arc on the right should be thinner and shorter than on the left.
Draw another small arc on the left side of the head as a guideline for wolf ears.
Draw two large circles under the head as guides for the body of the wolf. These circles should be approximately two times larger than the first. The top should be almost directly under the head. The second circle should be to the left and larger.
Draw two lines under the body (one under each circle) as foot guides. Bend the lines slightly to indicate joints. The hind legs of the wolf will be folded, so the line should be almost flat.
Draw a few lines that connect the main shapes and form the body of the wolf.
Draw a long curved line in the lower left side of the body as a guideline for the wolf tail.
That's all you need for an initial sketch. Drawing a wolf for a child is not as difficult as it seems. From now on, press the pencil harder to get a clearer picture.
Wolf face study
Draw a short thick line at the top of the start circle for the wolf’s closed eye. For more detail, outline a few small lines around the closed eye.
Draw a wolf nose on the tip of the muzzle. Darken the line at the edge of the muzzle, and then draw the base of the nose and nostril inside. Shade the inside of the nose so that it is lighter than the nostrils. To do this, press the pencil looser. To show shine on the nose, do not shade the desired area or shade it very slightly.
Use the starting arcs as guides to draw the rest of the wolf's face. Follow the intended line, making it darker and thicker and thereby creating the upper part of the muzzle. Add a tiny curved line on the upper jaw so that the wolf’s tooth peeks out. Draw the lower jaw using another arc as a guide. Use a thick dark line for the lower lip and short strokes to indicate the jaw. Add also the lower canine. Do not give up, more than half the way is passed, it will soon become clear how to draw a wolf for a child!
Draw ears
Use the arc on the left as a base to draw the ears of a wolf. Darken the outer arc of the ear with short strokes, following the main outline. Add a few larger strokes inward for the fur. Draw another curved line for the ear looking from the other side.
To draw the rest of the wolf’s head, use the initial sketch circle for the base. Draw with short strokes to display the fur.
Draw paws and tail
Using the line on the right side as a guide, draw the front legs of the howling wolf. Lightly draw the shape of the first paw, following the main path of the line. When you get the correct shape, darken the lines using quick, short strokes to portray the fur. In the area of the joints, draw the folds and add a few short lines at the bottom for the fingers and claws of the animal. Draw the visible leg on the other side, using the rendered first paw as a template.
Use the bottom circle and the sloping line below it to depict the hind legs of the howling wolf. Mark the shape of the top of the paw inside the circle and the bottom along the oblique line path. When you get the correct shape, darken the lines using thick short lines to represent the coat. Draw a few strokes on the tips of the paws to mark the claws. Add the visible part of the wolf paw on the other side of the body.
Draw the rest of the body of the howling wolf using the starting lines and shapes as guides. Use thick, short strokes to depict the thick coat of the wolf, following the basic outline lines. Go on, just a little remains, you already know almost everything about how to draw a wolf to a child easily and simply.
Use the line in the lower left of the beast's body to depict the tail. Bend it around your hind legs. When drawing, use longer strokes, because the hair on the tail is longer than on the body.
Erase as many of the original guide lines as possible with the eraser. Do not worry if some cannot be deleted. You can leave a little, they will be closed by further hatching. Re-draw all the final lines of the drawing that you may have accidentally deleted.
Final hatch
In principle, the drawing can already be considered finished and not finalized. You can assume that now you know how to draw a wolf for children with a pencil in stages, and you can even teach this child. If you painted a white or arctic wolf, then you can also skip the step with additional hatching.
Add a little shadow to your howling wolf pattern to give it more size and volume. Hatch areas with different shades of gray. This can be achieved by changing the pressure on the pencil. To achieve a feeling of fluffy, do not draw strokes of the same tone nearby. Select the direction of the light source when shading so that the shadows match it.
Add a shadow below. This helps to put the wolf to the surface so that it does not seem to be "flying."
