Sinusitis in a child: treatment and an encouraging prognosis

Today in modern pediatrics, a sinusitis in a child is a very common problem , the treatment of which requires the timely response of alert parents. However, before talking about productive treatment, it is necessary to fully understand what the essence of this pathology is. So, with sinusitis there is difficulty in nasal breathing, accompanied by swelling of the nasal mucosa and pain in the maxillary sinuses. The cause of the progression of this disease in the children's body is swelling of the mucous membrane. If pathogenic microbes multiply in the predominant microflora, purulent inflammation occurs. That is why treatment is based on the main task of eliminating swelling of the mucosa, as a result of which the inflammatory process noticeably recedes.

Very often a complication after acute respiratory viral infections or rhinitis of a different nature becomes sinusitis in a child whose treatment is very protracted. Perhaps every child inevitably suffers from similar viral diseases, which are especially exacerbated in the autumn-winter period. In addition, it should be remembered that it is during this period that the child’s immunity is significantly weakened and systematically attacked by pathogens, therefore, vigilant parents should regularly take all preventive measures in order to protect their baby from infectious infections.

A runny nose is one of the fundamental signs of a disease such as sinusitis in a child, the treatment of which should be started as soon as possible. After all, it can acquire a chronic form or be modified into a more terrible disease - meningitis, which is already characterized by inflammation of the meninges.

Do not forget the fact that the immunity of pregnant women is as fragile as the children's immune system, so sinusitis during pregnancy is also a common phenomenon that requires urgent attention. It is important to focus on the fact that when diagnosing childhood sinusitis and with a predominance of sinusitis in pregnant women, the treatment has a similar character.

The treatment of sinusitis is complex and includes taking medications, the action of which is aimed at eradicating a pathogenic infection, and performing local procedures that significantly strengthen the immunity weakened in the disease. Sometimes surgical intervention also takes place, but such manipulations are performed solely according to the testimony of a specialist.

The first step in a productive treatment is to clearly listen to all the doctor’s recommendations, the second is to remove the swelling of the nasal mucosa, the third is to ensure the release of mucus from the maxillary sinuses, and then find out the main cause of this pathological process. So, medication establishes the use of antibiotics (Isofra, Bioparox) and antihistamines (Protargol, Collargol), as well as the use of drops (Nazivin, Rinazolin, Naphthyzin) and sprays and diligent physiotherapy. It is important to understand that it is not worth taking the recommended drops continuously for a long time, because there is an addictive effect, therefore it is advisable to periodically change the medication, and it is better to change it to a spray or aerosol. A systematic washing of the nose is also carried out in order to quickly eliminate accumulated mucus along with bacteria, dust and allergies in the maxillary sinuses and to suppress pathogenic swelling.

If there is a running sinusitis in a child, the treatment may be surgical in nature. Its essence is to perform a puncture of the maxillary sinus, which makes it possible to pump out purulent masses from the sinuses and introduce restorative drugs. In general, timely treatment gives positive results.
