The creators of the film were immediately two well-known film companies in the United States - Amblin Entertainment and Touchstone Pictures. The result was a pretty cute family cartoon.
This animated film differs from all others in that it involved both live actors and "cartoons" - drawn animated images. The film begins in 1947 in Los Angeles, where the "cartoons" live on a par with living people. Most of the characters drawn live in Multown, a special area of Los Angeles, which was built specifically for them.
Cartoon "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" tells the story of the "cartoons" who, like ordinary people, are forced to earn their living. Most of them work as actors in animated film studios, but there are those who work in ordinary companies in ordinary positions. And, of course, there are those who make money in not entirely legal ways.
The budget of the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" amounted to 70 million dollars. As of 1988, this picture was the most expensive project in the history of cinema, but in the future, all expenses paid off. The picture collected more than $ 150 million at the box office in American cinemas alone, while world fees turned out to be much larger. The picture is unique because the animated characters created at different studios first appeared together in the same film.
In the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" there are scenes that were played by live actors under the direction of director Robert Zemeckis. All of them were shot at one of the small studios in the English city of Hertfordshire. All the cartoon scenes were shot by Richard Williams at a studio in London.
The basis of the plot of the picture was the work of Gary Wulf “Who Censored Roger Rabbit?”, Which the writer wrote in 1981. Screenwriters Peter Siman and Geoffrey Price spent several months adapting the novel, after which they presented a version of the script to directors and film studio representatives.
The painting "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" entered the treasury of animated films as one of the most controversial and grotesque films. "Cartoon" Jessica Roger, the wife of the protagonist, was created in the image of the most popular actresses in the history of cinema, and that is why she entered the top list of the sexiest cartoon heroines on the planet. I must admit that, together with her husband, she looks somewhat comical, however, their love is able to overcome all obstacles and punish criminals.
Only three real actors took part in the film: Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd and Joanna Cassidy. All other characters were voiced by dubbing actors. Charles Fleisher and Kathleen Turner voiced rabbit Roger and his wife Jessica.
As a result, the picture "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" was launched by Buena Vista Distribution, with Touchstone Pictures providing tremendous support. In Russia, this film appeared only in 1995, and was broadcast on the eve of the New Year in 1996 on the RTR television channel (now “Russia-1”).
