"Cefuroxime" is an antibiotic of the second generation of cephalosporins. A drug is used to treat infectious diseases, it is sensitive to most gram-positive and negative bacteria, including strains that are not sensitive to amoxicillin and ampicillin. After parenteral administration of the drug, its maximum concentration in the blood plasma occurs within 45 minutes, the half-life is 70 minutes, excreted unchanged in the urine during the day.
In bone tissue, sputum, pleural and cerebrospinal fluid, soft tissues and skin, myocardium, the therapeutic concentration rate of Cefuroxime is observed, the instruction indicates its ability to penetrate into breast milk and overcome the transplacental barrier.
Good bactericidal properties are the reason for prescribing the treatment of many diseases with Cefuroxime, the instructions for use indicate the following indications for using the medicine:
- ENT diseases (sinusitis, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis);
- diseases of the upper respiratory tract (empyema, pneumonia, bronchitis);
- Genitourinary infections (endometritis, gonorrhea, adnexitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis);
- skin diseases and pathologies of soft tissues (erysipeloid, impetigo, erysipelas, pyoderma, streptoderma, furunculosis);

As a prophylaxis of infectious diseases in the postoperative period, the drug “Cefuroxime” is also prescribed.
The release form of the drug is a powder, from which an injection solution is prepared with a dosage of 250, 750, 1500 mg. Injections are administered parenterally, a dose is individually prescribed depending on the age of the patient and the severity of the disease.
Care should be taken to treat the drug with “Cefuroxime”, the instructions for use indicate the possibility of side effects, they usually have a short-term and mild nature:

Allergic reactions also occur during treatment with Cefuroxime, the instructions for use describe rare cases of anaphylactic manifestations, skin rashes. Long-term use of the drug can adversely affect the body in that it causes an increase in the number of other bacteria insensitive to the drug, for example, the genus Candida. In case of hypersensitivity to antibiotics of the penicillin, cephalosporin series, taking the medicine “Cefuroxime” does not recommend the use of the drug.
With an increased dose of the drug administered, negative reactions occur from the central nervous system in the form of excitability, seizures. The treatment of such symptoms is carried out using peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis. To date, unfortunately, the issue of treatment with Cefuroxime by pregnant women has not been studied, therefore, it is not recommended to take it during this period, it can only be justified if the benefits of such treatment prevail over the risk to the child.
