The new film of the world famous saga about robots from the future and Doomsday, called "Genesis (Terminator)", received not the most favorable reviews, but this does not detract from some of its advantages. Undoubtedly, it deserves attention, especially in comparison with the 3rd and 4th parts of the media franchise, which crashed.
Preparing for the shooting and filming process
The picture has several executive producers, including Megan Ellison, who is also the head of Annapurna Pictures, which refused to finance the new trilogy. Monetary obligations fell on the shoulders of Paramount Pictures and Skydance Production, which announced a reboot. The fantastic action movie "Terminator: Genesis" until the last moment was shrouded in a veil of secrets, confusing the audience. All information about the plot details was kept in the strictest confidence, so it was not clear whether it would become a restart, or a full sequel. Preparation for the filming began on December 1, 2013, and they took place in San Francisco and New Orleans for 106 days. ILM company, working on computer graphics, starting from the second part, joined the collaboration. The film "Terminator: Genesis" was completed on May 22, 2015, and was released worldwide a month later.
Plot
The events of the film transfer viewers to several timelines at once. The starting point of the story is a prologue on behalf of Kyle Reese, who tells the story of how, in 1997, the Skynet computer network brought the world to a nuclear apocalypse. Several years passed after Judgment Day, and once little Reese nearly died at the hands of terminator robots, but was saved on time by John Connor. As before, the latter is a leader in resistance thanks to its extensive knowledge of machine design. Then the plot unfolds in 2029, when the war for peace was practically won, but the enemy manages to send the T-800 terminator to the past in order to kill the mother of the future leader, Sarah Connor. In parallel with him, Reese moves in order to interfere with the insidious plans of the villains. In the first half hour, the film "Terminator: Genesis" practically does not run counter to the original script. Arriving in 1984, Kyle meets another T-1000 terminator , from whom Sarah Connor saves him. But in this Universe, she was initially one with the hero of Arnold Schwarzenegger and explained to the sergeant that there was a time shift and the past had changed, so the heroes would face completely new situations and enemies.
Creators
To lead the resurrection of the "Terminator" was proposed to Eng Lee, Denis Villeneuve and Ryan Johnson, but all three refused. As a result, the director of the project was directed by Alan Taylor. Prior to that, he was mainly seen as the director of TV shows. Among his most famous works are such popular shows as The Game of Thrones, The Underground Empire, and Mad Men. Perhaps this was reflected in the picture, in which the narrative turned out to be very twisted, and also a lot of plot and time lines were drawn through the entire film. Also in his filmography includes the Marvel tape “Thor 2”, which brought him onto the widescreen road, serving as a wonderful experience. The script was taken by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis, and James Cameron and Gale Ann Heard remained in the role of consultants and developers of the original characters. Lussier had previously shot several films about Dracula and Crazy Riding, but mainly worked as an editor. And Kalogridis wrote scripts for such films as “Alexander” and “Island of the Damned”.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Next, the producers faced the question of the leading actors. One thing was clear - for the project to be successful, the actors and roles of the movie Terminator: Genesis should be perfectly matched. That is, in no way do without Arnold Schwarzenegger and his T-800. However, it is no secret that the legend of cinema is pretty old, so his character was reworked. Nevertheless, in one of the scenes appears the very young terminator, recreated using computer technology. This time he bears the name Paps, which he was awarded by Sarah Connor as a child. Almost all the humor of the picture is concentrated on the lips of the character Arnie. And in general, the film turned out to be much less serious than in 1984 and 1991. The hero of Schvratzenegger served as a kind of link between the old and the new, thanks to which it becomes clear that the tape is a full-fledged continuation, despite the performance of the main roles by new actors.

World fame and success instantly surrounded Emilia after the HBO television channel released the series Game of Thrones, based on a series of books by the famous writer George Martin. She managed to cope with fierce competition and was approved for the role of Daenerys Targaryen. Filming of the television series began in 2010 and continues to this day, and Emilia Clark continues to play one of the main characters in this story. In between seasons, she also managed to star in several films, including Spike Island, Hemingway House, and the short chain Chained. And in 2016, it is planned to release two full-length works with her participation at once. After being approved for the role of Sarah Connor in the movie “Genesis (Terminator)”, the feedback from Internet users about such a decision was very contradictory, because viewers were used to the role of “mother of dragons,” and Linda Hamilton is still not forgotten. However, the actress coped with the role perfectly and replenished the piggy bank of her professional experience, going beyond the scope of the television series.

In the film “Terminator: Genesis”, the actors were selected with special care, and the producers decided to take on the main roles such artists whose faces will be familiar to the audience. The role of John Connor was approved by the namesake of Emilia - Jason Clark. Before getting to the big screen, he took part in numerous projects, often in the background. They began to recognize the actor after such films as “Johnny D.”, “Deviation” and “The Most Drunkest County in the World”. And his role in the sensational films, including “Goal Number One” and “Planet of the Apes: Revolution”, can be considered a real success. In 2015, he played a major role not only in the new “Terminator”, but also in the action-movie “Everest”.
Jay Courtney
Among the promising and gaining popularity of the actors include Jaya Courtney. He started by participating in TV shows and also played a secondary role in Jack Reacher. And as a leading actor, the big screen came in the form of the son of the hero Bruce Willis in the new 2013 Die Hard, which is a kind of attempt to breathe new life into the cult saga of the last century, as well as Genesis (Terminator). Reviews about the picture as a whole were very unflattering, but the aspiring actor was noticed, thanks to which he took part in such projects as “I, Frankenstein”, “Divergent” and “Water Seeker”. By this way, he came to fulfill one of the most important roles in the rebirth of The Terminator, namely Kyle Reese, who will become the father of future leader John Connor. Many considered him too large in comparison with Michael Bean, but, according to others, he was very convincing. Minor Characters
In the film "Terminator: Genesis" supporting actors also contributed. The brilliant J.K. Simmons, who received the Oscar in 2015, embodied on the screen the image of detective O'Brien, who fought on the good side. Thanks to his character, the heroes successfully escape from a predicament. But the role of the British actor and former footballer Matt Smith has not been made public for a long time, as it has a decisive role for the plot. On all sites it appeared that he was playing a certain Alex, however, this turned out to be a standard trick for hiding the script details, so in the final credits he already appears under a different name. Smith became widely known for his participation in the popular series Doctor Who, where he played a major role for three seasons. And the son of Miles Dyson named Danny, who actually breathed life into the Skynet network, was played by aspiring actor Dayo Okeniyi.
Reviews and the future of the project
Regrettably, the new film of the famous saga titled “Genesis (Terminator)” received critical reviews not the most positive, but rather extremely negative. Many of them refer to the lack of uniqueness, seriousness and sincerity, which resulted in an unsuccessful attempt to remake the classics in a new way. In Russia, the comments of users and the opinions of reviewers were equally divided: praising the picture of Alan Taylor and sharply critical. As for the main Network resources, on Rotten Tomatoes only ¼ users rated the film positively, on iMDb its rating is 6.6, and it was awarded the same rating by domestic users of the popular Kinopoisk site. As you know, it was planned that the fantastic action movie will receive 2 more sequels and will become a trilogy. However, it is no secret that it is box office fees, ratings and reviews that affect the possibility of continuing. In this case, they, unfortunately, were far from expectations, which put future shootings into question. Therefore, those who liked the picture, for now, can only wait for comments from the creators.
