Childhood and youth

Yuri Tsaler was born on May 22, 1973 in one of the maternity hospitals of Pervouralsk - a small town in the Sverdlovsk region. The parents of the boy decided to give him to play the piano at the music school. Tchaikovsky, although Yuri himself had no special desire for this. In one of his interviews, the musician with a smile recalled that when he abandoned the school, one of the teachers of the music school told him: “What a blessing, Jura, that you will finally stop making music!”

After that, Yuri tried to get a job, but didn’t stay anywhere for long. For example, he worked at a bakery as a simple baker. The future Mumiy Troll star could only survive one shift, at the end of which he quit.

In high school, cult groups such as DDT and Alice had a serious influence on Tsaler. This led to the fact that Yuri began to play the guitar and became interested in rock and roll.

The beginning of the creative path

Since Tsaler could not find a suitable job for himself, he decided with his father (a fairly well-known jazzman-saxophonist) and his younger brother to speak in one of the most popular institutions in the city, in which the criminal elite liked to relax. This peculiar family musical group was called the “Youngest group of optimists”. This unusual name is due to the fact that the senior Tsaler played in the group "Optimists".

After some time, in the beginning of the difficult 90s, Yuri collects his own group “Bird Zu”. The demo of the new team was sent to the contest of young performers. She accidentally came across Peter Mamonov, who, after listening to her, was delighted. He immediately contacted Tsaler and offered the young group his own recording studio to work on his debut album, but, unfortunately, this did not go beyond verbal agreements.

“Zu Bird” was able to record one magneto album, which became quite popular at the local level, but one of the band members soon died. This tragic event was the impetus for the collapse of the team. After some deliberation, Tsaler decides to continue his career in Moscow.

Having settled in the capital, Tsaler quickly gained a reputation as a talented performer, so it is not surprising that Ilya Kormiltsev turned to him in the fall of 1997 with a proposal to join the recently created Mumiy Troll group. Yuri responded to the offer and took the place of a solo guitarist in the team.

As the musician himself recalls, at first he had a very hard time - an unusually busy schedule of tours and tours affected him. A few months later, Tsaler even began to think about leaving the group, but still was able to overcome himself and gradually get used to the new mode of work. After some time, Yuri Tsaler became an integral part of the team. Many people associate the Mumiy Troll with him.

Tsaler’s career was rapidly going up. Famous Russian directors began to turn to him for soundtracks for films. So, in 2004, Yuri, together with the frontman of the “Mummy Troll” Ilya Lagutenko wrote songs for the film “Book Thieves”, and in 2008 created a musical series for the movie “Tell Leo”.

Unfortunately, this led to a misunderstanding within the team. Lagutenko was dissatisfied with Tsaler’s work in third-party projects and his excessive independence, so Yuri Tsaler resigned from the Mumiy Troll group during one of the tour tours in 2013. He gave her 16 years of his life.

As already mentioned above, this activity of Tsaler became the fundamental cause of his conflict with Lagutenko and his departure from the Mumiy Troll.
