It is prepared simply and quickly, and the result is able to satisfy the most demanding gourmets.

When cooking dishes in another country, it is sometimes interesting to find out what is the meaning of its name. So, the Japanese dish "Oyakodon" in Japanese is written this way: 親子 丼. The word itself means "a cup of rice with chicken and eggs." Why did the Japanese choose such a name for this dish? The first character 親 (oya) means “parent”, the second 子 (co) means “child”, and the third 丼 (don) means “cup”. If everything is clear with the last component of the word, then the use of the first two parts is not entirely clear. Local residents explain this very simply: the parent is the chicken, and the egg is her child. Since both products are used in the preparation of refreshments, the dish was given a rather symbolic name.

How is Oyakodon prepared?

In order to cook this Japanese dish, you will need these products:

  • Chicken fillet or chicken legs (300 g).
  • Rice (half a glass).
  • Eggs (3 pcs.).
  • Onions (one middle head).
  • Soy sauce (6 tablespoons).
  • Plum wine "Mirin" or sugar (2 tablespoons) and parsley.

The procedure for preparing the Japanese Oyakodon dish is presented below.

  1. Boil rice in such an amount of water that it is approximately twice the volume of the cereal crop. Salt to taste, you can add a little oil to an almost finished mass.
  2. Heat soy sauce with a small amount of water (2 tablespoons) and sugar in a pan. Pass the onion chopped in half rings in this liquid for about 5 minutes, you can add a little salt.
  3. Cut the chicken meat into medium pieces and add to the onion, fry thoroughly, stirring slowly, add parsley at the end.
  4. Without reducing the fire, pour the whole mass with eggs beaten with a pinch of salt.
  5. Fill a deep bowl with rice, and top with an omelet with pieces of chicken.
