The drug "Remantadin-STI" is a specific chemotherapeutic agent that has antiviral activity. It allows you to inhibit the synthesis of the envelope of viruses. Also, this drug inhibits the development of arboviruses that cause encephalitis (mites are mainly carriers).
The medicine “Remantadin-STI” is metabolized in the liver and after 3 days a fifth of it is excreted along with urine unchanged.
Indications for use
The specified drug can be used for children after 7 years of age if necessary, treatment of the early stages of the flu. For adults, it can be used as a prophylaxis of influenza during its epidemic and for the prevention of tick-borne encephalitis.
Tablets "Remantadin-STI" - instructions for use
The drug in tablets is swallowed whole, after which they are washed down with water, it is best to take it after a meal.
When carrying out prophylaxis for a month, one tablet is taken daily. If there was a skipping of the drug, then the next dose is done at the appropriate time and the dose is not doubled. Before taking the medicine "Remantadin-STI" (tablets), you need to consult a doctor.
If this drug is used to treat influenza in children, then at the age of 7-10 years a day, two tablets should be taken, at the age of 11 to 14 years, it is recommended to take a tablet (50 mg) three times a day. The same treatment for adults involves taking 2 tablets three times a day during the first day of treatment, you can also take a specified amount (6 tablets) of the drug once. During the second and third day, 2 tablets are taken twice a day, and on the 4th and 5th day the same amount of the drug, but 1 time per day. Typically, the duration of treatment with the drug "Remantadin-STI" lasts no more than 5 days.
In cases where the prevention of tick-borne tick-borne encephalitis is necessary for children, the drug should be prescribed only by a doctor. Take this remedy only immediately after the tick has bitten. Adults need to take 2 tablets three times a day for three days, sometimes the reception can be extended up to five days. In cases where after a tick bite more than 2 days have passed, there is no point in drinking the medicine “Remantadin-STI”. If you are going on a trip to those places where there is a risk of infection with tick-borne encephalitis, then you can use this drug as a prophylaxis even without a tick bite. In such cases, one tablet is taken for 15 days, but this can only be done by adults, for children this method of prevention is unacceptable.
Possible side effects
In most cases, the drug "Remantadin-STI" is well tolerated. But sometimes, the following may occur:
- dyspepsia, diarrhea, rash;
- tinnitus, ataxia, depression, drowsiness, hoarseness, agitation.
Contraindications
The drug "Remantadin-STI" is not prescribed in the following cases:
- in the presence of acute and chronic kidney diseases, as well as in acute liver diseases;
- during lactation, as well as during pregnancy;
- in the presence of intolerance to adamantane derivatives or other components;
- with thyrotoxicosis.
During treatment with this drug, it is not recommended to drink alcohol, as this can cause negative reactions from the central nervous system. The use of acetylsalicylic acid and paracetamol significantly reduces the effect of this drug.
Overdose
Exceeding the recommended doses of the drug can cause a person to hallucinate, increased excitement and cardiac arrhythmia, which in rare cases can even lead to death. In case of an overdose, treatment with a physostigmine is necessary, for adults 1-2 mg, and for children 0.5 mg is enough.
