Over the past few years, Hollywood has presented several paintings on the work of the forensic team. These films introduce the viewer to the inside of the work of the police, painstakingly gathering evidence and investigating the causes of death. In exchange for the spectacle of chases and detentions, projects of this kind lead a thoughtful narrative, pointing out the details of the work of specialists. One of such series, namely “Forgotten”, stands out against the general background with deeper detail, as well as the originality of the idea. The project was widely distributed within the United States, but almost unfamiliar to the domestic audience.
Actors of the series "Forgotten" play the role of a kind of team of volunteers, which works with the identification of long-dead people. In the event that there are practically no leads, the corpse is disfigured or it is impossible to establish a personality by other means, the team of these specialists enters into action. This is what positively sets the series apart from similar projects. The storyline unites several heroes who have their own problems and reasons to come to such a gloomy art.
Story line
At the center of each episode is its own John - or Jane Doe - that's what unidentified corpses are called within the US police jargon. Based on the evidence or body features found, a team of volunteers, composed of detectives and specialists from similar fields, establishes the identity of the victim, his surroundings, and also restores the picture of events that preceded this. Each of the private detectives has their own motives for working in the police. So, one of the team members lost his daughter, who was never found. The man still believes that the girl is alive and will return. Each of the backstories is not without a peculiar cliche, but it looks harmonious in combination with the development of the storyline of other characters.
Cast
The main cast includes 7 people, other characters are secondary. The work of the police, as well as second-rate specialists in the series is paid much less attention than the development of the main plot. Therefore, the identities of the full group are not fully disclosed. The names and surnames of the actors of the series "Forgotten" do not cause associations with the world of big cinema. Producer Mark Friedman deliberately selected just such a composition, partly because of the constraint on the budget issue, but also because of fear of compromising the picture by a famous hero before the premiere.
The actors and roles of the series “Forgotten” became the backbone of the series, the development of events does not occur around the object, but is concentrated directly on the characters. This puts the cast in a large position responsibly before the viewer, since each miss in displaying one or another aspect of the image will be taken extremely sharply. The fact that some actors are newcomers, as well as a small budget, led to an early liquidation of the project, and the series "Forgotten" went on the shelf after 17 episodes of the 1st season.
Critics' ratings
First of all, critics evaluated not so much the technical side of the project, as the preparation of the characters and their implementation. The names of the actors of the series “Forgotten” have been repeatedly mentioned in separate essays regarding the picture being prepared for the premiere. Partly, critics did not like the kind of poverty and constraint of individual heroes emotionally, which is typical for beginners. In addition, the neglect of the main plot for the sake of storytelling separately for each of the characters, including not the key one, deserved attention.
On average, critics' ratings were neutral. The series was recognized as successful during the implementation, and the distributor even received an additional order for 5 episodes to the pilot and 12 main ones. However, shortly after completion of the storyline development, the project was recognized unprofitable and closed. Whether the continuation will be implemented is currently unknown. In turn, the series as such does not have an ending, leaving the opportunity for the further development of the narrative.
Alex Donovan
The role of a retired cop was played by Christian Slater. His character is revealed in the series most fully and plays one of the main roles. It was his daughter who was kidnapped, and the girl was never found. The work in the department is of particular interest to Donovan: he seeks to identify each corpse so that relatives and relatives can at least adequately bury the remains. In many ways, it is his motives that are most transparent and understandable, serve as the basis for the backbone of the team, which makes Donovan a kind of leader.
Tyler davis
A newcomer who only comes to the department at the time the story begins. At first, he is at a loss as to the purpose for which several people leading ordinary lives outside the walls of the site are engaged in painstaking and gloomy work. After their motives become clear, Davis becomes attached to all members of the group. He has a hot temper, which is why a novice often meets in conflicts. It was played by Anthony Kerrigan.
Candice Butler
The role of a kind of "mother" for all members of the team was played by Michelle Bort , an actress from the USA little known to the world viewer. The girl participated mainly in the filming of TV shows and managed to go behind the scenes of such projects as Supernatural, CSI, etc. Candice’s image is neutral, her motives are unclear to the end. The heroine herself claims that she is simply tired of her usual work and finds an outlet in such “help” to society.
Among the actors of the series "Forgotten" also noted: Rochelle Aates (Grace Russell), Heather Stevens (Lindsay Drake), Bob Stephenson (Walter Bailey), Elisha Cuthbert (Maxine Denver). The project was a debut for several participants previously unfamiliar with the world of big cinema. Because of this, the cast of the Forgotten cast sometimes seems unnatural and a little fake. Which ultimately led to a low rating of the project. The actors of the Forgotten series, whose photo is located above, should have become the basis of the story, but in the case of the series devoted exclusively to murder investigations, such a move was incorrect.
Continuation of the project
The original series was released in 2010, after its completion there were no prerequisites for continuation. The distributor officially closed the project as unprofitable. Later on the Web there was a mention that the old team was again seen together, however, there was no data on the continuation of filming. So we can assume that after such a long break, the series will no longer return to the screens.
In general, in comparison with analogues, the project received a unique idea, which had previously been encountered only in several series, for example, “Bones”. However, the low budget and the insufficiently fast trend for the development of the narrative led to the loss of audience sympathy and further downtime of invested funds, as a result of which the project was curtailed.
