Throughout life, the human musculoskeletal system undergoes multiple loads, suffers injuries, which over time becomes the cause of the appearance of chronic diseases.
Improper nutrition, weak immunity, frequent illnesses, metabolic disorders in the body contribute to rapid wear and weakening of the protective functions of our skeleton. Particular attention is always paid to the spine. In addition to maintaining the correct position of the body and internal organs, the cavity of the spinal canal is the receptacle of the spinal cord. Nerve fibers pass through the intervertebral openings, connecting the individual parts of the body into a single and integral mechanism. Pathologies of the spine provoke a squeezing or
pinching of the nerves. An exception is the pinch of the
sciatic nerve, the symptoms and treatment of which require special study.
Compression (compression) of the nerves of the vertebral roots is called radiculopathy. Various forms of this disease are distinguished, depending on the location of pinching. Problems in the lumbosacral region associated with squeezing the sciatic nerve are called sciatica. Compression, accompanied by an inflammatory process, is called radiculitis.
When the sciatic nerve is pinched, the symptoms and treatment are strictly individual. But first of all, it is necessary to find out and eliminate the cause of the disease.
Pinched sciatic nerve. Causes
The cause of nerve compression is a decrease in intervertebral distance. A similar phenomenon occurs when:
- overweight, when the load on the lumbar spine increases;
- chronic osteochondrosis, which leads to dystrophy of the intervertebral discs.
Compression also occurs in diabetes mellitus, displacement of the vertebrae, injuries, muscle cramps, hypothermia. During spasmodic processes in the muscles, in addition to nerves, blood vessels are compressed, which contributes to poor circulation and the appearance of complications. Therefore, upon detecting pinching of the sciatic nerve, the symptoms and treatment are subjected to a thorough analysis, taking into account all the subtleties of the course of the disease.
Symptoms
- Pain, passing from the lower back to the buttocks, thigh, lower leg, heel.
- Restrictions on movements: it is difficult to stand, bend, sit.
- Chills, numbness, tingling, or burning of certain parts of the body.
- During motor activity, pain sensations intensify, at rest - weaken.
How to cure sciatic nerve pinches
There are several ways to get rid of pinching:
- Measures to normalize weight (if necessary).
- Acupuncture sessions.
- Elimination of intervertebral hernia, reduction of vertebrae or discs.
- Drug treatment and herbal medicine complex.
- Special gymnastics.
- In some cases, surgery.
If the pinch of the sciatic nerve is complicated or amplified, the symptoms and treatment also undergo changes, as severe forms of compression can lead to paralysis, paresis of the limbs.
