The well-known term “lumbago” is usually called what professional doctors call lumbago - a sharp pain that suddenly appears in the lumbar region, most often due to lifting heavy objects or an unsuccessful rotation of the body. Surprisingly, the symptoms of this disease really resemble a sharp electric shock or even a gunshot wound, which is caused by internal pinching of a nerve extending from a column of the spinal cord.
The actual medical definition of lumbago is as follows: lower back pain, paroxysmal, caused in most cases, that is, by a change in the lumbar intervertebral discs. The main sign of the onset of the disease is considered pain in the lower back and lower back. As already mentioned, these sensations cause metabolic changes, which often undergo intervertebral discs, which are destroyed by themselves and traumatize the nerve passing in the immediate vicinity.
With lumbago, the symptoms appear literally at the very moment the damage is caused: these are pains (and not only at the site of the nerve injury, but also headaches), inactivity or complete lack of mobility of the spine in the lumbar region. Doctors recommend that if you experience the first feelings of stiffness and pain, seek advice in order to confirm the diagnosis in time and begin appropriate treatment. Research and diagnosis of the spine should be carried out as early as possible, since the cause of pain, in addition to osteochondrosis, leading to lumbago, can be a tumor that compresses the nerve trunk.
This disease mainly affects males who have reached the age of 30-40 years. During this period of life, any physical overstrain, a sharp drop in temperature (overheating, overcooling) or a not very successful turn of the body can have a sharp, severe and quite intense back pain. According to many patients who are asked to describe the manifestation of the disease, sensations in the lower back are painfully tearing, throbbing, shooting or piercing. A person with such pain cannot change posture, straighten up, as any movement only increases pain and leads to muscle spasm in the lumbar region.
The most unpleasant thing is that the symptoms of the disease can both disappear within a few minutes and continue for several days. The treatment of lumbago mainly consists in patience, prolonged stay at rest (up to 5-10 days) and a stable horizontal position. In this case, the pain can disappear at any moment, but not completely, but “hiding” in order to reappear and intensify with sneezing, coughing and any, even the most minimal physical stress. With prolonged continuation of the lumbago, specialists who will prescribe painkillers, pharmacological agents, sedatives and so-called novocaine blockades, in which the drug solution is injected into the area of manifestation of painful sensations, should be treated.
In addition, during the course of the disease, experts recommend limiting oneself to the use of certain foods - salty, spicy and smoked, that is, those that retain water in the body. You should not abuse fat and fatty meat, even if a strong broth is prepared from it. The lumbago diet involves light vegetarian soups, potato dishes and not too salty porridges.
Also during this period it is extremely useful to undergo some procedures: massage, which will help relieve tension from the muscles, ultraviolet radiation, diadynamic currents, as well as rub painkillers, such as tiger ointment or camphor alcohol, into the pain area. In addition, we must not forget that the key to health is a healthy lifestyle, so you should pay attention to special simulators that remove the load from the spine.
