Liana Stark - a character with a tragic fate

Today, fantasy is a very popular genre of literature, cinema and computer games. Everyone likes it for their own reasons. A series of books (as well as a series based on them) "Game of Thrones" can be safely attributed to outstanding examples of this genre. This is a harsh and cruel, but at the same time good and hopeful work that, by its elaboration, can compete with such titans of the genre as “The Lord of the Rings” or “Forgotten Kingdoms”. This article will tell about one of the key characters in the universe, even though she does not appear in books and series and make an opinion about her only from the recollections of other heroes. This is Liana Stark - the girl who decided the fate of the Seven Kingdoms, not wanting it herself.

Liana Stark

Background

Game of Thrones takes place in the fictional world of Westeros. The largest state in its territory is the so-called Seven Kingdoms. The circumstances are such that among the ruling elite there are large families, or houses. They interact, weave intrigues against each other in their attempts to occupy the Iron Throne and royal power with it. Each House has its own emblem, motto, personal qualities. There are seven main Houses in Westeros - Stark House, Lannister House, Targaryen House, Baratheon House, Tyrell House, Greyjoy House and Martell House. During the life of Liana Stark, the House of Targaryen ruled the Seven Kingdoms for many years . Ayeris the Mad was the king, and Crown Prince Reyegar was his heir.

The life and fate of Liana Stark

Liana was the daughter of the head of the Starks house - Ricarda. She had three brothers - Brandon, Bengen and Eddard (the latter is one of the key characters in the books and the series). Even in early childhood, she had incredible beauty. Among its other qualities can be called sensitivity, the concept of honor and justice, determination, courage and compassion. Liana's father, having such an enviable bride, decided to give her in marriage to Robert Baratheon (who was a close friend of Eddard). Until that time, the girl grew up in the Stark family castle - Winterfell.

At the age of sixteen, her father took her and his other children to the royal tournament in Harrenhall. Among the many fighters who fought there was Prince Reyegar. When he won, in front of everyone, he declared his queen of love and beauty to Liana (despite the fact that he was already engaged to Princess Elia Martell).

After the tournament came to an end, Liana mysteriously disappeared. Subsequently, it was said that the prince had abducted her and taken her to the Tower of Joy, a small castle on the border of the Seven Kingdoms with another state, Dorn. However, there are versions that say that Liana left with him voluntarily, because her named Robert had a cool character and was greedy for women.

Civil war

Upon learning of such an act of the prince, Robert was furious. Soon, he began an uprising, which grew into a civil war. At first it was unstable, but when several houses dissatisfied with the power of the Targaryen joined the rebels, they became a serious threat to the throne. The decisive battle took place on the Ruby ford. In this battle, the king’s army was defeated, and his commander, Prince Reyegar, who hastily left for the capital, having learned about the beginning of the uprising, died.

Liana spent all this time in the tower. When Eddard (and he also joined the rebels) with his loyal people arrived at the Tower of Joy, he found his sister dying in a bloodied bed. Before her death, she took a vow from him. Which one - remains unknown. Subsequently, several theories arose among the fans of the series about this.

Liana Stark was buried in the crypt of Winterfell.

Further developments

Subsequently, Robert's troops besieged Royal Harbor - the capital. King Ayeris was killed by his own guard. Robert became the new king and married Cersei Lannister. However, all his life he remembered Liana as the woman of his dreams. Warmly spoke about her and Eddard, who, apparently, kept his word before her death.

Theories

Fans of the universe created the theory that Eddard's illegitimate son, John Snow, is the son of Liana and Reyegar. Allegedly, Liana asked her brother to bring up her son, while keeping silent about his origin. Eddard did not answer anything intelligible even to his questions about his mother. So this theory may well be true.

Since the creators of the series do not give any images that could convey how Liana Stark looked externally (there are no photos of the actress either), everyone presents her in different ways. It is possible that John looks exactly like her, because he has no signs of Targaryen (character, blond hair).

Summary

Among all the heroines of Game of Thrones, there is no other who suffered as much as Liana Stark. The Game of Thrones is rich in realistic displays of life realities. And since in real life there are many mysteries, then the book of Liana’s riddle will not be solved soon in the book either.
