The detective is among the five most popular and best-selling genres in the world. Still would. Who will not be captured by the process of investigating and solving a crime? Especially when the author realistically opens the veil of modern reality and skillfully weaves elements of the thriller, science fiction and adventure into the plot thread.

Julia Latynina books

First works

Julia worked as a correspondent, author of various programs and a TV presenter. Latynina's main field of activity is economics. She came to journalism, being the author of several novels. Some sources claim that Latynina switched to prose from journalism. But in the program Ekho Moskvy, these assumptions were refuted by Yulia Latynina herself. Books written between 1990 and 1995:

  • “Irov Day” - the novel later entered the cycle “Wei History”.
  • “One Hundred Fields” - one of Latynina’s first novels, is included in the series “Wei History”.
  • "Clearch and Hercules" - a novel in a fantastic genre.
  • “Sorcerers and Ministers” - the novel is included in “Wei History”.

Latynina writes both in the detective genre and in the fantasy, where the adventure style brilliantly fits. Some of the novels make up literary cycles - in particular, “Wei Empire”, “Akhtarsky Metallurgical Plant”, “Caucasian Cycle”. In Latynina's work, one can notice a knowledge of the economic background, a good literary language, the subtlest humor and perfect sarcasm, the accuracy of the wording, which often hit the mark.

"Wei Empire"

The fantastic cycle “Wei Empire” is called by many the best of Latynina’s works. A series of books tells about the state in the boundless future. The founder of the Wei Empire defeated the enemies and created an empire that was able to survive with its rules and laws for more than 2 thousand years. It grows stronger and develops until aliens from Earth appear in it.

The inhabitants of the empire tried to resist any changes and interventions. But the country could no longer remain the same. The cycle resembles the same scheme that is played in the cycle "Akhtarsky Metallurgical Plant". Only already on an interplanetary scale. Step by step, the consequences of this visit get to the palace of the emperor, where "fateful decrees" are issued.

In the empire, troubled times began - the intrigues of officials, theft, bribes. And the elite of the empire, practicing socialist feudalism for almost 2 millennia, learns the basics of exchange operations and traces earthlings around the finger. A kind of economic "Vei" miracle is coming. In the political and economic game of this cycle, there was a place for intricate detective stories, and philosophical reflections, and miracles.

Akhtarsky Metallurgical Plant

This cycle is perhaps the pinnacle of copyright realism. How does the action unfold in the first book, The Steel King? The general director of the metallurgical plant is cruel, cynical, but talented. He literally “throws out” his predecessor from the director's chair. Becomes the owner of a cellular company so that no one listens to it. Bribes the urban elite - the mayor, police, governor. The miners' strike threatens him with disaster and hunger for workers. Can the steel king stop?

Latynina masterfully showed the life of modern Russia, where in the battle for the largest metallurgical plant, which occupies the 5th place in the world, criminal, banking and law enforcement agencies crossed. The stunning authenticity of the trilogy reveals to the reader the wrong side of financial combinations, the business and political life of the country. The second part of the trilogy - “Hunt for Manchurian deer” - also captivatingly captures the stuffing of the Russian “business” - crazy money, gangster lawlessness, and the lack of moral principles.

"Industrial zone" is the final book of the trilogy, in the center of which is the same Akhtarsky metallurgical plant. In the novel, a war breaks out between two powerful industrial groups. There are no laws, no business, no state. Only personal relationships and war, profit and loss. For the sake of ourselves, environmental disasters occur, and court decisions are simply bought. This is an industrial zone.

"Caucasian cycle"

This series begins with the book Jahannam, or See You in Hell. Like the previous cycle, it tells about a society where there are no rules. Where everything is bought - positions, conscience. Honor and decency is not the place here. The oligarch removes the opponent with the help of Chechens, and those, in turn, are eliminated by the FSB. Another terrorist attack that can be prevented, on the contrary, is provoked for the stars on uniform. It would seem that it could be worse?

The author of the cycle answers this question. Many episodes, which are often present in real life, are revealed in the novel vitally and believably, as Julia Latynina can do this. The books Niyazbek and Land of War are full of details previously covered in the press. Details and magnificent style of the author reveal the real problems of Russian reality. The plot contains drama and eternal truths - faith and love, freedom and betrayal.

The book “Not a Time for Glory” concludes the Caucasian Cycle. One of the heroes of the second book becomes a manager in a western company. By the will of fate, he returns to his friend to conclude a contract for billions of dollars. The president of this small country rules with an iron hand. But Kremlin officials, with their irrepressible appetite, are beginning to put pressure on them and are ready to declare him a terrorist and rebel. The plot’s realism captures, as well, much that Yulia Latynina creates.
