Everyone who has ever watched the movie “Meet the Fockers” probably remembered that one of the heroes once really wanted chimichangs. He screamed about it. And many viewers also immediately wanted to try this unusual foreign food. But where do you get it? We are still not in Latin America ...

Of course, an overseas word, similar to the familiar Chunga-Changua from childhood, can easily mislead anyone. So it blows from him with unknown distances, hot sauces, incredible spices, which we have never even seen. But in fact, you can cook chimichang yourself. It’s not so difficult, and getting the necessary products is not a problem. So, today the focus is on chimichanga, the recipe of which came to us from sunny Mexico.

About the fallen burrito and unsaid swearing

Like many world famous dishes, chimichanga has its own legend. And this legend says that in 1920 the cook of the El Charro restaurant accidentally missed a freshly prepared burrito. He crashed right into the pan with boiling oil, sprinkling it around. Frightened, the woman almost cried out in her hearts a curse popular in those parts: “Ay, chingado!”, But at that moment her little niece was sitting next to her. In order not to teach the child all sorts of nasty things, she stopped short in time and said something like: “Ay, chi ... michanga!”. When she managed to catch burritto from oil, it turned out that frying did not harm him at all. And on the same day a new word appeared in her restaurant’s menu - “chimichanga”. The recipe for this dish with great speed spread throughout Latin America.

Cooking Products

Are you afraid that you will not be able to get everything you need? In vain! Most of the products are likely to be in your refrigerator, and the missing ones are sold at the nearest supermarket.

For this dish we need the following ingredients:

  • wheat tortilla - 6 pcs;
  • thick sour cream - 100 ml;
  • cheddar cheese - 150 g;
  • onion, preferably red - 1 pc;
  • garlic - 1 clove;
  • meat filling - 150 g;
  • green chili peppers and "Halepeno" - 0.5 pcs each;
  • bell pepper - to taste;
  • potatoes (boiled) - 1 pc.

Chimichanga is also prepared from these simple products. The recipe can be varied to your liking. For example, adding a little guacamole or salsa sauce to the filling.

Cooking process

Cut the ingredients and fry in oil. Grate the cheese. We spread the filling on the tortilla, sprinkle with cheese, fold it with an envelope and fasten with skewers. We prepare the preparations prepared in this way in the refrigerator for half an hour, and then fry them in hot oil. As you can see, nothing complicated.
