Today, cinema has reached such heights that it is already difficult to imagine how you can still surprise a modern viewer. There were non-standard methods of shooting, and extremely original cast, and interspersed animation. All this does not cause that delight, as it would be literally 10 years ago, not to mention earlier periods in the history of cinema.
Nevertheless, fortunately, there will always be directors who have several aces hidden in their pockets. This list includes, for example, David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan. Wes Anderson, who is also relatively young, but incredibly talented, differs in an extremely original outlook on the world.
Who! Where? When?
First of all, it should be noted that the name that the viewer sees in the credits and is familiar to any connoisseur of independent cinema is a creative pseudonym used by the author almost from the beginning of his career. The real name of the creator of such tapes as “Kingdom of the Full Moon”, “Peerless Mr. Fox” or, for example, “Tenenbaum Family”, is Wesley Mortimer Wales Anderson.
The director was born on May 1, 1969 in Houston in the family of an archaeologist and the owner of an advertising company. In fact, it was from parents that the future star of non-standard cinema inherited a special view of the world and some perfectionism in relation to the design of the picture.
Legend Beginning
Wes Anderson spent his childhood years in the company of two brothers - Eric and Mel, with whom he became especially close after his parents divorced. This event was a real shock for eight-year-old Wesley. The divorce hit the boy so much that this situation served as the basis for the Tennenbaum Families scenario, for which the director was subsequently awarded an Oscar nomination.
Directorial debut
In fact, Wes Anderson, from childhood, gravitated to visual aesthetics. He was extremely worried about the moments of beauty that he had encountered in his life, so that the future director took up the camera at a fairly early age.
The first masterpiece to be released was a short film called “Bottle Rocket”, released in 1996. Critics rated the work very positively, and it was even called a breakthrough in the field of cinema, but it did not collect large amounts at the box office. Either the audience of the mid-nineties was not ready for such an art, or an insufficient amount of money was invested in an advertising campaign - now it’s probably hard to say.
Nevertheless, Wes Anderson did not leave attempts to remove the masterpiece, and already in 1998 the world saw the "Academy of Rushmore".
Comedy that everyone liked
One of the main roles in this picture went to Bill Murray, who was loved by everyone during this period of time, who so successfully appeared in Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. It was then that the director Anderson Wes formed completely as a creative person, acquiring his own style, recognizable from this moment. The Rushmore Academy has become significant in another aspect: it was this picture that forever bound Bill Murray and the American creator of very strange, very special stories.
This time the tape was a resounding success with both critics and the audience, and the director’s name already sounded in full force.
Style
Wes Anderson, whose films few people saw, is famous not only for the original scripts. To an even greater degree, he is recognizable for his very special manner of constructing a frame, filling it with color and sound. Every second is thought out by the director to the smallest detail, starting with the movement of the protagonist and ending with a geometric pattern on his T-shirt, which successfully combines with the surrounding stage environment.
If you see fancy colors in the frame, a huge number of symbolic details, cute details that only seem insignificant, rest assured - this is Wes Anderson. His films are concretized to an acceptable limit, and each particle of the interior says something special about the character of the hero, his mood and view of the world.
Creative heritage at the moment
As already mentioned, this American director began to shoot not so long ago, and therefore there are not so many works in his arsenal, however, this is just the case when it is not quantity that matters, but quality. Every frame, every note of musical accompaniment, every nuance in the location of the camera during the shooting - all this was personally controlled by Wes Anderson. His filmography includes only 15 directorial works. Incredibly moving, inspiring confidence in the purity of the soul, the film The Kingdom of the Full Moon, the bizarre animated film The Peerless Mr. Fox, the last masterpiece of the director of the Hotel Grand Budapest, all of them easily won a huge number of fans around the globe. Absolutely all the work can be called the true brainchild of a talented director. Anderson calls all of them personal from the first to the last second.
Some interesting
So, who is he - Wes Anderson, whose filmography literally screams about the author’s obsession with symmetry and harmony in everything and everything? Very little is known about his personal life, but on the basis of some facts the impression about this representative of modern cinema is very peculiar.
For example, Wes Anderson, whose biography is mostly obscured, almost always appears in public in a good old corduroy suit. This sweet, cozy habit, addiction to the simple elegance of the past can be clearly seen in the heroes of the director.
Things that have only once won the trust of this person remain with him forever. This is exactly what happened with the famous Futura font, which Anderson always uses in credits. The same can be said about the actors wandering in the works of this director from one film to another.
This man is literally full of surprises. For example, few people know that he studied philosophy at the University of Texas. Who knows - maybe it was then that he developed his peculiar view of the world, regularly reflected in the paintings.
Wes Anderson loves cranks, frankly admires them, patronizes them in his films, rewarding crazy actions with incredible endings and special beauty of the frame. This is a director who is simply impossible to confuse with anyone. This is the author, three times nominated for an Oscar, which is difficult to find competitors in modern cinema.
