Biography
Lavrenty Masokha was born and raised in the village of Khreschatyk, Kiev province. His parents were very poor people: they did not even have their own land. For this reason, the boy’s father was forced to move with his family to Kiev in search of work. At first, he got a job as a sailor on a ship, and after a while he became a weigher. Mother Lavrentiya Masokhi was engaged in housework, raised children.
In 1924, Lavrenty became a graduate of the labor school. A little later, he was taken to the factory as a student of a fashion designer. But it was a creative boy who was always drawn to art. Therefore, the guy managed to not only earn extra money and help his parents, but also with pleasure attended a drama club. As a result of this, Masokha entered the Kiev Music and Drama Institute, which he graduated in 1931.
Actor career
Lavrenty Masokha was remembered by viewers as a talented actor who managed to perfectly perform negative roles. He played the Nazis in such films as “On Thin Ice”, “Seventeen Moments of Spring”, “Tankmen” and others. After graduation, the young man was hired by the assistant director at the Kiev studio. At the same time, Lavrenty Masokha starred in several films at once:
- "Carmeluk";
- "Italian";
- "Youth";
- "Komsomol".
Lawrence's sibling, Peter Masoha, also became an actor, a silent movie star. On the eve of the war, unfortunately, he was repressed. It is possible that this is why his brother did not have the best future, and his acting career left much to be desired.
Success came to Lavrenty Masohe (photo of the actor in the article) after shooting in the film "Big Life", in which he played the role of Makar Lyagotin. And his first negative character was the anarchist in the movie Shchors. Thanks to these very creative works, Lavrentiy becomes one of the most sought-after actors of that time.
The death of the artist
A talented actor died during the filming of his last movie about the adventures of Standartenfuhrer Stirlitz. This time Masokha was supposed to play the role of adjutant Mueller, Scholz. It turned out that Lavrenty managed to star in absolutely all episodes of this picture and died after filming. He died unexpectedly.
As his colleagues on the set recalled, the actor became ill during the performance of the role. The man spoke pointlessly, confusing the words in places. In connection with this director of the film, a short break was announced. Unfortunately, Lavrentiy did not feel better after the rest, and the shooting was stopped.
Every day, Lavrentiy Masokha felt worse and worse. He died at a table in a restaurant, where he came with friends, in 1971. The actor was buried in Moscow. Later, his ashes were transferred to Kiev.
