The dramatic action movie of the Russian director Vasily Chiginsky is based on real events. The whole story really happened during the years of World War II, which the actors played. “The First After God” talks about what happened a few decades ago. This is a serious war film. And just like at that difficult time, everything can be seen in the picture: betrayal and strong friendship, meanness and heroism, severe pain and ghostly hope. It shows the choice between courageous feat and ordinary fear, between tender love and human duty.

And then everything happens not as we would like: an indictment is brought, which did not require any special evidence. As soon as possible, it leads Alexander Marinin to prison. But the commander of the submarine brigade, which was perfectly embodied by actor Vladimir Gostyukhin, was entrusted with the task of attacking an impressive convoy of fascists. The commander suddenly announces that if Marinin does not take part in the execution of this assignment, it may fail. He takes an important step, having vouched for Alexander and thereby giving him a chance for rehabilitation.
These are the subjects enriched by creative biographies of actors. “First after God” is a historical picture in a sense, but, of course, with some artistic fiction. Which, however, does not detract from its merits.
Storyline
As mentioned earlier, all the action takes place in 1944, in Finland, on the basis of Soviet submarines. Marinin is trying as carefully as possible to hide from others his noble birth. He is "under the hood" at the NKVD, he can be arrested at any moment, despite his merits and military exploits. At the same time, Tatyana is distributed to the dining room. In her heart immediately settled a love for the courageous handsome captain. At the same time, the command received an order for a rather serious special operation, the result of which was to destroy the German ship. Only Marinin can do this, because it is about him in the Navy that he is "the first after God." But the leadership, agreeing that it was Marinin who should complete the task, hopes that Alexander will not return ...
True or fiction?
The premiere of the film took place on November 10, 2005. Although its producers insisted that everything was real and based on the biography of captain-submariner Alexander Marinesko, this is not entirely true. The protagonist of the tape is a fictional character, although much of what is said in the film really took place. And the facts from the biography of Marinesco are present.
And yet, despite the fact that the film “First after God” (actors and roles have already been described in detail) conveys an almost real story, the most significant in this picture is the talented embodiment of the author’s intention. Not all facts, of course, are 100% taken from life, but as close to it as possible.
