The drug "Terbinafine" describes the instruction as a synthetic agent of the class of allylamines. By inhibiting squalene epoxidase in the membrane of the fungal cell, the drug "Terbinafine" specifically inhibits the synthesis of sterols at an early stage. This in turn provokes ergosterol deficiency, intracellular accumulation of squalene. As a result, the death of the fungal cell occurs.
The drug "Terbinafine" affects mold and yeast-like fungi, dermatophytes. Low drug concentrations have a fungicidal effect on dermatophytes and molds. Depending on the type of yeast-like fungus, a fungistatic or fungicidal effect is noted.
With the external use of Terbinafine (the instruction contains such information), the drug penetrates the dermal layer very quickly, accumulating in the hair, nails, and stratum corneum. In this case, the medicine has a minimal systemic effect. External use of the drug "Terbinafine" (ointment) does not exclude the possibility of penetration of the active component into breast milk.
The drug is prescribed externally for skin mycoses provoked by dermatophytes, skin candidiasis, pityriasis (multicolored) lichen.
The tool "Terbinafine" (tablets), the instruction recommends for mycosis of the scalp, fungal lesions on the trunk, feet, legs. The drug is used for infections provoked by fungi of the genus Candida, if the prevalence or severity of the disease causes oral administration of the drug. Children with a mass of less than twenty kilograms are prescribed 62.5 milligrams. Patients weighing up to forty kilograms are recommended at 125 milligrams. The dosage for adults is 250 milligrams.
In accordance with the indications, treatment is prescribed for two or six weeks.
With onychomycosis on the feet, the duration of therapy is about twelve weeks. With slow growth of nails, a longer period may be required.
As practice shows, a persistent clinical result is noticeable after a few months after the end of treatment and the elimination of symptoms.
It must be remembered that irregular use of the drug or premature cessation of use can provoke relapse of the pathology.
To prevent re-infection during therapy, hygiene rules should be followed, antifungal treatment of linen, shoes and socks should be carried out.
