This article describes drugs that are similar in name, but based on different active substances and accordingly have different mechanisms of action. "Libexin": instruction
The active substance of libexin is prenoxdiazine (prenoxdiazine). The instruction explains the mechanism of action of the Libexin agent by blocking the peripheral parts of the cough reflex. The following effects appear here:
- local anesthetic effect - the sensitivity of peripheral (cough) receptors decreases;
- bronchodilating effect - stretching receptors involved in the cough reflex are suppressed;
- a slight decrease in the activity of the center of respiration (without its inhibition).

Release form and composition
Red syrup for children with aroma of raspberries and cherries. It is packaged in glass bottles of 125-300 ml. It is a mucolytic product with the active substance "carbocysteine."
Auxiliary ingredients in the composition: sucrose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, vanillin, crimson dye (Ponceau 4R), raspberry or cherry flavor, sodium hydroxide, purified water.
Farm action
Carbocysteine is a mucolytic and acts on the gel phase of the bronchial secretion. At the same time, disulfide bonds of glycoproteins are broken, so the viscosity decreases and the elasticity of the secretion increases.
It is prescribed for acute and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases, in which viscous, difficult to separate sputum is formed. It is prescribed for inflammatory diseases of the facial cavities. Used in preparing the patient for bronchoscopy and bronchography.
Reception methods
Ingestion.
In 1 scoop of syrup (5 ml) contains 100 mg of carbocysteine. Babies 2-5 years old are given 1 scoop - 2 doses / day. Children over 5 years of age: 1 scoop - 3 times / day.
Therapy should not be continued for more than 8 days without medical advice.
Side effect
